The Operation of the New Diesel Hydrotreating Unit at Brazil’s Largest Refinery Is Scheduled to Occur in 2025
The state-owned company also informs that the new diesel hydrotreating unit (which will technically be named U-5283) will have the capacity to produce 10,000 m³ of S10 diesel per day.
The contract that will be granted by Petrobras to the winner of the bidding will be in the EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) modality. The operation start is scheduled for 2025, in line with the Strategic Plan 2021-2025.
In general terms, the hydrotreating process consists of treating a stream of hydrocarbons in the presence of hydrogen and a catalyst with the purpose of modifying or removing impurities, aiming to specify the products or prepare these streams for other refining processes.
Inaugurated in May 1972, Replan is Brazil’s largest refinery in processing capacity, with a throughput of 69,000 m³/day of oil (equivalent to 434,000 bbl/day), located in the city of Paulínia, 118 km from São Paulo.

Gasoline, Ethanol, Diesel and GNV Prices Keep Rising and the Newest Fuel, Biogas, Came to ‘Save’ App Drivers, Taxi Drivers, and Workers
Day by day, the prices of gasoline, ethanol, and diesel are increasing, and consequently, Brazilians working in passenger transport, such as taxi drivers and app drivers, who relied on Compressed Natural Gas (GNV), are migrating to biogas, as GNV is also starting to weigh on their budgets. Biogas can be used without problems in vehicles equipped with a gas kit.
Petrobras made a new adjustment to the price of GNV, increasing it by 39% for distributors. According to a survey conducted by the National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), in the last week of May, the price of vehicular gas for the end consumer had already reached R$ 4.199 in some areas of the city of Rio de Janeiro. Given this, although it is not a new solution, biogas is becoming popular for providing more efficiency and lower costs.
App driver Glauber dos Santos, 32, said in an interview with Extra newspaper that he started refueling with biogas on the recommendation of colleagues. According to him, who has a 1.0 car with an eight cubic meter cylinder installed, while he can travel 120 kilometers on a full tank of GNV, he can go 150 kilometers using biogas.
