The Brazilian oil giant opens international tender for a new diesel hydrotreatment unit at Brazil's largest oil refinery, Replan

Last week started with new opportunities in the market. With Petrobras' investment, the Paulínea refinery will be able to produce 100% low sulfur diesel oil (S-10). In addition, the unit will also be able to increase its production of aviation kerosene (QAV).

“With this project, Replan will be able to produce 100% low sulfur diesel oil (S-10) and increase the production of aviation kerosene (QAV), aiming to meet the specifications and quantities demanded by the future market, economically, with operational safety and less impact on the environment”, says Petrobras in a statement to the market.

The operation of the new diesel hydrotreatment unit of the largest refinery in Brazil is expected to take place in 2025

The state-owned company also informs that the new diesel hydrotreatment unit (which will be given the technical name of U-5283) will have the capacity to produce 10 m³ of S10 diesel per day.

The contract that will be awarded by Petrobras to the winning bidder will be in the EPC modality (engineering, supply and construction). Start-up is expected to occur in 2025, in line with the 2021-2025 Strategic Plan.

In general terms, the hydrotreating process consists of treating a stream of hydrocarbons in the presence of hydrogen and a catalyst in order to modify and remove impurities, with a view to specifying products or preparing these streams for other refining processes.

Inaugurated in May 1972, Replan is the largest refinery in Brazil in terms of processing capacity, with a load of 69.000 m³/day of oil (equivalent to 434.000 bbl/day), located in the city of Paulínia, 118 km from São Paulo.

Prices of gasoline, ethanol, diesel and CNG keep rising and the newest biomethane fuel came to 'save' application drivers, taxi drivers and workers

With each passing day, the price of gasoline, ethanol and diesel increases, and, with that, Brazilians who work with passenger transport, such as taxi drivers and app drivers, who resorted to Vehicular Natural Gas (CNG), are migrating to biomethane fuel, since CNG is also starting to weigh on the pocket. Biogas can be used without problems in vehicles that have a gas kit.

Petrobras made a new readjustment in the price of CNG, increasing 39% for distributors. According to the survey carried out by the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), in the last week of May, the price of vehicular gas to the final consumer already reached R$ 4,199 in some parts of the city of Rio de Janeiro. Therefore, despite not being a new solution, biogas has become popular because it yields more and is cheaper.

App driver Glauber dos Santos, 32, said in an interview with the newspaper Extra that he started filling up with biogas on the recommendation of professional colleagues. According to him, who has a 1.0 liter car, with an eight-cubic-meter cylinder installed, while he manages to travel 120 kilometers with a “full tank” of CNG, he does 150 kilometers with biogas.
