This combination makes wood a superior choice to conventional towers in many aspects.
Modvion, in collaboration with Denmark’s Vestas, a giant in the wind sector and a shareholder of the startup since 2021, designed the turbine to be efficient not only in energy generation but also in its manufacturing and transportation.
With 28 modules and steel-based fasteners, the tower is modular, facilitating transport on conventional roads and minimizing environmental impact during assembly.
One of the major advances of this technology is its negative carbon footprint, meaning that over its lifetime, the tower can absorb and store more carbon than it emits.
Additionally, when dismantled, the wood can be recycled for use in other high-strength applications in civil construction, promoting an even more sustainable lifecycle.
