According to the Oil Company, There Are No Remaining Employment Contracts in Brazil
The German oil company Wintershall Dea, which focuses on natural gas production, has chosen to cease all its operations in Brazil and close its current office in Rio de Janeiro, the company stated in a press release last Monday, January 17. The company holds a total of nine exploratory licenses, which are distributed across the Potiguar, Ceará, Campos, and Santos basins, obtained through concessions in the bidding rounds in 2018 and 2019.

“The decision is the result of a very thorough analysis of our global portfolio and an assessment of individual projects and how they fit into our long-term strategy”, stated Thilo Wieland, a board member of Wintershall Dea responsible for the regions of Russia, Latin America, and Transportation. In Latin America, the oil company also operates in Argentina.
Natural gas makes up approximately 70% of Wintershall Dea’s portfolio, which also produces oil, focusing on specific regions and projects that align with the company’s climate goals. Wintershall Dea also stated that it has no remaining minimum work commitments in the licenses or other relevant financial obligations in Brazil.
