After A Long Wait, Yamaha Launches The Ténéré 700 In The Brazilian Market With A Package That Prioritizes Robustness And Off-Road Capability, But With A Price That Puts It In A Tight Battle With Its Competitors
After years of being one of the most requested models by the motorcycling community, Yamaha finally made it official: the Ténéré 700 arrives in Brazil in 2025. Famous for its ‘roots’ philosophy, focused on adventure and devoid of ‘frills’, it arrives celebrated for its mechanical simplicity, but with a price that sparked the debate: R$ 72,990. This price puts it in direct confrontation with rivals that, on paper, offer more power and technology for less, creating a dilemma for Brazilian consumers.
The Heart Of The Legend, The CP2 Engine And Its Technical Appeal
The epicenter of the Ténéré 700‘s appeal is its engine. The CP2 engine, a 689 cc inline two-cylinder, is widely praised not for its maximum power, but for how it delivers it. The key to its success is the 270-degree crankshaft, a technical configuration that results in an irregular firing order, similar to that of a V-twin engine.
In practice, this translates into a strong and linear torque delivery from low revs, with a ‘pulsation’ that the rider feels directly in the grip, improving control and traction, especially on low-grip terrain. In addition to the technical merit, the CP2 engine, already used in other successful models like the MT-07, has built a reputation for being extremely reliable and low maintenance, one of the most important attributes for an adventure bike.

The Launch In Brazil, The 2025 Timeline And Price Strategy

The arrival of the Ténéré 700 in Brazil follows a well-defined timeline. The official price of R$ 72,990 (excluding freight) was announced on March 26, 2025. The online pre-sale, which required a deposit of R$ 7,000, opened on March 31 and had its initial batch sold out in minutes.
The production of the motorcycle at Yamaha’s factory in Manaus (AM) is scheduled to start in August 2025. The first units are expected to reach dealerships for delivery to customers from September 2025. The strategy of a limited pre-sale batch generated positive marketing, but the real success will be measured by ongoing sales over the months.
The 2025 Model Updates, The Necessary Modernization That Enabled Its Arrival
The long wait for the Ténéré 700 allowed Yamaha to bring to Brazil the 2025 version of the model, already updated and more competitive. If the original version came with its simple LCD panel, it would have been an easy target for criticism. However, the version coming here received crucial modernization.
The main change is the new 6.3-inch color TFT display, which can be connected to a smartphone. The bike also gained an electronic throttle (ride-by-wire), enabling the inclusion of two riding modes (Sport and Explorer). The safety package has been enhanced with traction control and a switchable ABS braking system with 3 modes, which allows the system to be turned off at the rear wheel or both for off-road riding.
How The Ténéré 700 Compares To Its Rivals
The Ténéré 700 enters one of the most competitive segments of the market. Its main competitor in proposition and price is the Suzuki V-Strom 800DE. Suzuki has the advantage of being cheaper (R$ 67,500), more powerful (84 hp), and coming with a quickshifter from the factory. The Ténéré, on the other hand, is significantly lighter (208 kg compared to 230 kg of the V-Strom) and has a chassis more focused on off-road.
Against the Honda Transalp 750, the battle is philosophical, and here the Ténéré shows what it’s made for. While the Transalp is an excellent touring bike, focused on comfort on asphalt and ‘can’ venture off-road, the Ténéré 700 is a rally bike that ‘can’ ride on asphalt. The difference is fundamental. Yamaha has a much superior and fully adjustable KYB suspension setup, making it the undisputed choice for those intending to tackle more difficult terrains.
Ténéré 700 In Brazil
The Ténéré 700 arrives in Brazil fulfilling what it promises: to be the most authentic and capable mid-range trail bike off-road. However, its price puts it in a delicate position. It is not the most powerful, nor the most technological, nor the cheapest.
The purchase of a Ténéré 700 is, therefore, a more passionate than rational decision. It is the ideal bike for the rider who truly goes off-road, values mechanical simplicity and reliability above all, and is willing to pay a premium for the legacy of a legendary name. Its success or failure will be the definitive thermometer to measure whether the culture of ‘roots’ adventure can indeed triumph over the cold logic of the technical specifications.
