In a move contrary to that of Ford, Volkswagen, the largest multinational vehicle manufacturer in the world, invests in production and in a factory in SP

Pablo di Si, executive president of the multinational Volkswagen in Amélica Latina, announced in an interview with Reuters, on the 7th, the commitment to launch a new investment cycle in Brazil. According to the executive, the details of the investment will be announced at the end of the year by the Group's Global CEO, Herbert Diess.

According to Pablo di Si, “we have defined (the investment) and have already stopped production at our factory in Taubaté to prepare the new platform”. The executive did not give details of the products, but it is known that one of them is the Polo Track, the brand's new access model in Brazil.

A factory in Taubaté currently produces two compact cars, the Sedan Voyage and the Gol hatchback.

So far this year, Volkswagen has become Brazil's best-selling brand, replacing General Motors Co (GM.N) after many years as GM's production in Brazil has been disrupted in part more than Volkswagen's by a global shortage of chips.

Volkswagen 'throws in the towel', gives up being the 'biggest manufacturer in the world' and hands the title to rival Toyota on a platter

Multinational Volkswagen says goodbye to the battle with Toyota for the crown of the automobile industry. Being the biggest automaker in the world is no longer a goal, that's what the chief executive responsible for the production and logistics areas of the German automaker, Christian Vollmer, guarantees in an interview with Automobilwoche. VW was number one since 2016, but last year lost the title to its rival.

The automotive industry is changing sharply around the world in favor of the environment, and this has led Volkswagen to change its strategic decision to focus on volume and defeat the japanese.

Now, the German automaker will fully focus its efforts on internal improvements, abandon combustion engines and focus on electric cars – an area that the company is already ahead of rival Toyota.

With Volkswagen “throwing in the towel”, Japan's Toyota should remain the largest automaker in terms of volume and lead the car market over the next few years.
