The National Agency of Petroleum Took Part in a Task Force This Week to Investigate Complaints at Gas Stations in Rio de Janeiro
The National Agency of Petroleum (ANP), with the help of Inmetro, Ipem-RJ, and the civil police, conducted a task force this week to inspect the huge fuel market in the state of Rio de Janeiro. In total, six gas stations were inspected in Rio de Janeiro. Stations in the neighborhoods of Andaraí, Bonsucesso, Botafogo, Rio Comprido, Vista Alegre, and Pilares were inspected. The operation started last Monday and ended today, Friday.
The operation served to investigate complaints made by consumers at these establishments. Additionally, the professionals checked the quality of the fuel sold at these stations. The task force included the presence of several agencies, each of them verifying a specific point at the gas stations.
National Agency of Petroleum (ANP) Found Several Problems
The ANP was responsible for checking the documentation of gas stations, as well as the resolutions and the quality of the fuel sold at the establishment. However, to the satisfaction of consumers in the region, the ANP found no violations related to the quality of the fuels sold at the locations. However, six notifications were issued for the non-presentation of invoices, in addition to 14 fuel samples collected for analysis in a laboratory.

17 Nozzles at Gas Stations Were Sealed
Inmetro was responsible for analyzing the amount of fuel delivered by each pump. Additionally, the correct operation of the pumps was analyzed by the agency. Here, 17 nozzles were sealed due to incorrect dispensing compared to what is displayed on the pump. These 17 nozzles were found at 4 different gas stations. Procon conducted an analysis of consumer rights and compliance with the Transparency Decree (Decree No. 10,634/2021).
Many problems were found at these gas stations. Tampered pumps, broken seals that appeared intact, and seals that allow manual adjustments in the quantity of fuel. Additionally, one of the stations was prohibited from selling beverages due to inadequate conditions.
Complaints about irregularities in the fuel market can be forwarded to the ANP via the Contact Us page or by calling the toll-free number 0800 970 0267. Complaints are essential for the agencies to keep customers safe. In addition to the risk to people, adulterated fuel can cause major problems for vehicles that are refueled with it.
