In response to request 1621/2019 from federal deputy Fábio Henrique (PDT/SE), on November 12, Minister Bento Albuquerque and Petrobras president – Roberto Castello Branco – acknowledged that they are closing some bases in Brazil, including the one on Acre Street in Aracaju,
“Regarding the alleged departure of the Administrative Headquarters of Petrobras from Sergipe and the termination of the Company’s operations in this State, it is reiterated that, at this time, this topic is not under discussion,” the minister stated.

Concerning the establishment located in Aracaju/SE, on Acre Street, the activities carried out there are being transferred, gradually, by March 2020, to the Carmópolis Base,” said André Luis Fares Francis, Demand Manager.
According to the company, it communicated its position to employees in meetings held throughout November by the local unit.
Petrobras also stated that it has been making efforts to reduce its debt, which is currently around R$ 90 billion, and building management is one of the strategies the Company has adopted.
“Cost optimization in processes and activities, an effort of the work teams that serve that unit directly in a single environment, for better results, seeking greater efficiency, rationality, and sustainability of the business,” specified the document, which is also endorsed by the Ministry of Mines and Energy.
In 2015, the Company occupied 72 properties in Brazil, and in 2019 this number was reduced to 38. According to the state-owned company, this reduction led to a savings of approximately R$ 700 million for Petrobras, in addition to greater integration of teams in single spaces.
Fábio Henrique emphasized that the economy of Sergipe will be shaken and several companies from Sergipe will suffer due to this closure. The deputy highlighted that Sergipe is an oil-producing state with significant natural gas reserve discoveries.
In light of the official announcement of the closure of Petrobras in Aracaju, federal deputy Fábio Henrique will talk with the coordinator of the federal bench from Sergipe to initiate a collective action from the entire bench. “I hope, above all, to count on the support of all my congressional colleagues, especially those who make up the governing base, to prevent Petrobras from closing its doors,” the deputy concluded.
