A major tragedy occurred aboard the P-70, a Petrobras platform that left a few days ago from the Chinese shipyard heading to Brazil to operate in the pre-salt. Yesterday, a worker from the outsourced company Boskalis died, and five others were hospitalized in a hospital in Africa, but they are now doing well, according to confirmed reports passed to Click Oil and Gas this Wednesday (01-08-2020). “There was a celebration and, apparently, some people ingested alcohol, ethanol to be exact, and one ended up passing away,” according to sources from Revista Veja. Petrobras also confirmed the incident in an official statement and is providing all necessary assistance.

At the time of the incident, the platform was sailing in international waters but had to make a detour near Durban, South Africa, so that the intoxicated individuals could be attended to by doctors who arrived at the vessel by helicopter. According to Petrobras, their condition is stable.

The body of the offshore worker is still overseas and will arrive in Angra dos Reis in 20 days for the wake, according to a local social media page reported last night here.
