The International Technology Group ANDRITZ Successfully Started One of the Two Flexible, Eco-Friendly Production Lines for Dissolving Pulp in Bracell’s “STAR” Project in Lençóis Paulista, São Paulo.
In April 2022, one of the Fiber Lines, which had successfully started producing kraft pulp in September 2021, was switched to producing dissolving pulp, achieving high production with premium quality within days of the change. For this innovative project, the ANDRITZ is using its technology developed for the continuous production of kraft and dissolving pulp, A-ConFlex. This technology allows complete flexibility in production, switching between high-quality dissolving pulp and kraft pulp in a short time to meet market demand. The largest energy-efficient pulp drying system in the world, EvoDry from ANDRITZ, with two pulp drying lines, which allows efficient and very fast switches between the production of dissolving pulp and kraft pulp, was also provided to the mill.
STAR Project
The STAR project is one of the largest and most sustainable pulp mills in the world, meeting the highest environmental standards. It has two flexible and eco-friendly fiber lines with a total capacity of 2.6 million tons/year to 2.8 million tons/year of bleached kraft pulp or 1.5 million tons/year of dissolving pulp made from sustainably grown eucalyptus.
Per Lindblom, Vice President of Bracell, said: “We are pleased and proud to now have the largest and greenest continuous cooking line in the world for dissolving pulp at Bracell’s mill in São Paulo, utilizing proven ANDRITZ technology. We started quickly after the change and soon we were producing high-quality pulp. This success is clearly due to the close teamwork between Bracell and ANDRITZ, as well as the complementary expertise of both companies in dissolving pulp technology and production.”
