The international technology group ANDRITZ has successfully started one of two flexible, eco-friendly dissolving cellulose production lines at Bracell's “STAR” project in Lençóis Paulista, São Paulo.
In April 2022, one of the Fiber Lines, which had successfully started kraft pulp production in September 2021, was switched to dissolving pulp production, reaching high production with premium quality in a few days after the switch. For this innovative project, the ANDRITZ is using its technology developed for continuous production of cellulose kraft and soluble, A-ConFlex. This technology allows total flexibility in production, switching between high quality dissolving pulp and kraft pulp, in a short time, to meet market demand. The world's largest energy efficient EvoDry Pulp Drying system from ANDRITZ, with two pulp drying lines, which allows efficient and very fast changeovers between dissolving pulp and kraft pulp production, was also supplied to the mill.
STAR project
The STAR project is one of the largest and most sustainable pulp mills in the world, meeting the highest environmental standards. It has two flexible and environmentally friendly fiber lines for a total capacity of 2,6 million tons/year to 2,8 million tons/year of bleached kraft pulp or 1,5 million tons/year of dissolving pulp made from eucalyptus sustainably grown.
Per Lindblom, vice president of Bracell, said: “We are pleased and proud to now have the world's largest and greenest continuous cooking line for dissolving pulp at Bracell's plant in São Paulo, using proven ANDRITZ technology. We started quickly after the move and were soon producing high quality pulp. This success is clearly due to the close teamwork between Bracell and ANDRITZ, as well as the complementary experience of both companies in dissolving pulp technology and production.”
