Meeting Between Representatives of Anglo American and the Government of Goiás Secures R$ 2.2 Billion Investment in Nickel Exploration in the State
The mining company Anglo American already has a strong presence in the state of Goiás through its nickel exploration plants in the region and now intends to expand this production. In this way, some representatives from Anglo American, the Government of Goiás, and the municipalities of Barro Alto and Niquelândia signed the letter of intent for the company’s investment plan in the state over the next 5 years.
After 40 years of operations in the state, Anglo American will make a total investment of R$ 2.2 billion over the next 5 years in the Goiás region. In addition, the company announced that within the investment package, R$ 1.7 billion will be allocated to the Barro Alto operation and another R$ 500 million for the Codemin unit in Niquelândia. The entire project will focus on technology in nickel exploration in the state, with the acquisition of more modern equipment, the search for new solutions, and an even more efficient production chain.
Moreover, Anglo American also emphasized that it will invest in nickel exploration focusing on sustainability and the adoption of ESG practices within its investment plan. Employee training and the search for new alternatives to make collaboration even more efficient and safe will also be part of the investments made by the company. Thus, the company hopes to make nickel exploration in Goiás more productive and safer for everyone.
Miner’s Investment Plan for Nickel Exploration in Goiás Will Be Essential to Attract New Ventures to Mining in the State
Despite Anglo American’s main focus being the pursuit of more technology and productive efficiency, the entire investment project in nickel exploration will also be important for the state of Goiás. This is because, according to the company, the expectation is that the workforce will expand significantly in the upcoming years, guaranteeing more job opportunities in the region. Additionally, the investment in Goiás mining will also bring greater visibility to the state and enable the arrival of new ventures.
Thus, the Secretary General of the Government of the State of Goiás, Adriano da Rocha Lima, highlighted the importance of the project for the socioeconomic development of the entire state and stated that “This is attracting not only companies from the mining sector but also from various sectors. The investments announced by Anglo American reinforce all the commitments of Governor Ronaldo Caiado to ensure the continuous growth of Goiás.”
The meeting to sign the letter of intent included not only the secretary but also the presence of the President of Anglo American in Brazil, Wilfred Bruijn (Bill), the Mayor of Barro Alto, Álvaro Machado de Freitas; the Mayor of Niquelândia, Fernando Carneiro da Silva; and the President of the Union of Extractive Industries of the State of Goiás and the Federal District (SIEEG-DF), Luiz Antônio Vessani.
