With the New Resolution from ANP for the Production of Natural Gas and Oil in Brazilian Blocks, Companies Will Have More Security in the Exploration Phase of Contracts Regarding Fuels and Uncertainties in Deadlines Will Be Minimized.
The National Agency of Petroleum (ANP) recently announced the approval of the new resolution that allows the extension of the deadlines for the exploration phase of oil and natural gas in Brazil for a period of 18 months. Until this Sunday (06/12), this is the main strategy of the agency to minimize the uncertainties in exploring Brazilian blocks and ensure even more attraction of investors for the implementation of additional ventures in the sector within the national territory.
Resolution Allows Extension of Deadlines for the Exploration Phase of Oil and Natural Gas in Brazilian Blocks, Ensuring More Security for Companies.
Brazil is a world reference in the exploration of fuels such as oil and natural gas and has strong reserves of the resource throughout the national territory, especially in the coastal areas. Thus, companies are increasingly seeking new exploration opportunities within Brazil, and the ANP now aims to provide even more incentives for new fuel production ventures to be developed in Brazilian blocks.
For this purpose, the agency announced the new resolution for production contracts in national blocks, allowing the extension of deadlines for the exploration phase for up to 18 months beyond the previously planned. This means that, during the first phase of natural gas and oil production projects, companies will be able to continue exploration for an additional 18 months while the next phases of the venture undergo evaluations and approvals by national agencies. This was a decision highly focused on expanding national productivity and granting new benefits to companies.

Petrobras quietly installed an artificial intelligence system called Smart Tocha in six of its largest refineries, and the technology independently controls the burning of gases to reduce emissions without any operator needing to intervene.
Moreover, the new resolution from ANP meets an industry demand and became possible with the publication of CNPE Resolution No. 12/2021, which recommended that the agency assess the adoption of measures for extending the exploration phase.
For the approval of the new resolution, the ANP draft underwent a long phase of analysis and consultation in public hearings aimed at ensuring the best decision for the oil and gas market to benefit over the coming years.
New Resolution for Extending Deadlines in the Oil and Natural Gas Exploration Phase Aims to Minimize Uncertainties in Fuel Production.
Despite being a world leader in the exploration of natural gas and oil, Brazil still faces a scenario of strong uncertainties regarding fuel production for new ventures. This occurs due to a contextual situation that has been further aggravated over the last few years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Now, the ANP will address this scenario and bring new solutions to the oil and gas market in Brazil in the year 2022.
During the exploration phase, areas of possible reserves are called blocks, and companies conduct studies and activities (such as seismic surveys and drilling of wells) to detect the presence of oil and/or natural gas in sufficient quantities to make extraction economically viable.
Thus, the new resolution aims to ensure more security for companies regarding these processes, with the extension of deadlines for reserve identification.
Now, with the possibility of extending exploration deadlines by up to 18 months, companies will have even fewer uncertainties regarding the oil and gas market in Brazil, and the segment will have the potential for strong expansion over the next few years.
