The Expressway Extension Project Resumes in Blumenau with Investment of R$ 30 Million, Immediate Start of Work, and Commitment to Deliver the First 3 Kilometers in Up to 12 Months.
The project for the extension of the Expressway in Blumenau has returned to the center of the debate on urban mobility in the city. After years of stagnation and surrounded by criticism, the project’s resumption was announced by the state government, with the signing of the service order to restart the work.
The expectation now is that the project will finally be implemented and start to address one of the traffic bottlenecks in the region. According to the schedule presented, the first 3 kilometers of the stretch should be completed in up to 12 months, allowing part of the new road connection to start functioning.
Expressway Project Had Been Stopped for Years
The project for the extension of the Expressway was supposed to be completed back in 2017. However, the project ended up being halted after a series of technical and administrative problems that prevented its continuity.

During the announcement of the resumption, the governor stated that the original project had significant flaws, such as the absence of an environmental license and incomplete planning.
These problems ended up holding up the project for several years, leaving abandoned structures with no practical use for the population.
Now, the government’s strategy is to resume the project in phases, starting with an initial section that will already provide functionality to the roadway.
First Phase of Project Will Have Investment of R$ 30 Million
The resumption of the project begins with an estimated investment of R$ 30 million. This amount will be used to complete approximately three kilometers of the Expressway extension.
According to the official announcement, this first stretch will be sufficient to activate part of the infrastructure that was stalled, including viaducts and access points already initiated in previous phases.
The expectation is that, with these first kilometers ready, the population will already notice improvements in the circulation of the region, especially in areas of urban expansion in the city.
Contractual Deadline for the Project is 12 Months
The contract signed for the resumption of the project establishes a deadline of up to 12 months for the delivery of the first stretch. This is the official timeframe set for the completion of the work.
Despite this, the government stated that there is a possibility of reducing this deadline if the progress of activities allows for an earlier delivery.
The expectation is that credibility in execution and timely payments to companies will help speed up the schedule.
Even so, the contractual deadline remains one year for the completion of the first 3 kilometers.
Complete Project of the Extension Envisions a Larger Bypass
The phase announced now represents only part of the total project. The complete project for the bypass of the Expressway involves a much larger stretch, estimated at around 15 kilometers.
While the first three kilometers begin to be executed, the government reported that it is developing a new technical project for the remaining 12 kilometers.
The idea is that, after the completion of this initial phase and the finalization of the technical planning, it will be possible to launch new bids to complete the entire road bypass of Blumenau.
The ultimate goal is to create a new transportation alternative that helps reduce congestion and improve urban mobility in the city.
Expressway is Considered Strategic for Blumenau
State and municipal authorities classify the project as essential for the region’s growth. The extension of the Expressway is expected to serve areas that have been experiencing strong urban expansion in recent years.
With the new road connection, the expectation is to improve vehicle flow and facilitate movement between different points in the city.
In addition, the infrastructure can stimulate economic development in the region by creating new logistical routes and facilitating access to growing neighborhoods.
The resumption of the project is seen as an important step in resolving a historical mobility issue in Blumenau.
Government Also Announced Visit to Another Project in the City
During the agenda in the city, the governor also confirmed a visit to Santo Antônio Hospital. At the site, the state government is investing around R$ 100 million in the construction of a new hospital tower.
According to the announcement, the new facility will have nine floors and is expected to expand the service capacity of the health unit.
The visit is part of the institutional agenda in the city and includes monitoring the progress of this other project, which is considered important for the healthcare sector.
Resumption of the Project Generates Expectation Among the Population
After years of stagnation, the resumption of the project for the Expressway rekindles the hopes of residents and drivers who are awaiting improvements in the urban mobility of the city.
If the schedule is met, the first kilometers could already begin to be utilized within a year, allowing part of the abandoned structure to finally come into operation.
The main question now is whether the project will be able to maintain the pace and avoid new delays, something that marked previous phases of the project.
Do you believe that the Expressway project in Blumenau will finally be completed, or is there still a risk of further delays?
