After Investment of R$ 400 Million, Alumar is Offering Several Job Openings in São Luís, Maranhão, for the Resumption of Aluminum Smelting Operations

In September of this year, the Government of Maranhão, through the Secretary of Industry, Commerce and Energy (Seinc), announced investments amounting to R$ 400 million for the return of aluminum manufacturing by the Maranhão Aluminum Consortium (Alumar), after the approval of tax incentives. Currently, Alumar continues to post new job openings in São Luís (MA). The job opportunities are part of the plan to reactivate aluminum smelting operations and join more than 500 job openings already announced by the company.

About Alumar

The production capacity of the refinery, which has been suspended since 2015, is 268 thousand tons of aluminum annually. The delivery of the first aluminum ingot is scheduled for the end of the first semester of 2022, with the total capacity of the unit expected by the end of the same year.

To ensure the social evolution of São Luís and all of Maranhão, the investment will support 2,250 job openings in its technical team, generating an additional 750 direct jobs and 1,500 indirect jobs for São Luís. To fill the positions, priority will be given to employees who were laid off in the last decade, starting in 2013.

The Maranhão Aluminum Consortium (Alumar), located in São Luís, is composed of a consortium among the mining companies Alcan, South 32, and the multinational Alcoa. Furthermore, Alumar is one of the largest aluminum producers in the world and one of the largest companies established in the state.
