The New Railway Of The Company Would Be Designed To Connect The Regions Of Três Lagoas And Aparecida Do Taboado, In Mato Grosso Do Sul. The ANTT Will Now Deliberate On The Project For The Construction Of The Asset, Requested By Suzano Pulp.

For this Friday, (01/20), the ANTT (National Land Transportation Agency) is preparing to decide in the coming days regarding the requests from Suzano. The company requested the construction of a new railway between Três Lagoas and Aparecida do Taboado, in Mato Grosso do Sul. So far, the project has not been approved yet by the agency, due to potential conflicts that may exist with the construction of the asset.

National Land Transportation Agency Will Analyze The Possible Scenarios Of The Construction Of A New Railway By Suzano And Its Impacts On The Transportation Market In Mato Grosso Do Sul

After a year with the requests from Suzano on hold, the ANTT will turn its attention to the deliberation of the project for the construction of the new railway in Mato Grosso do Sul.

The project includes 136 kilometers of railway between Três Lagoas and Aparecida do Taboado and a 24.7-kilometer railway branch in the municipality of Três Lagoas.

The projected investments for the project total more than R$ 1.27 billion, a high amount for the national railway sector.

These analyses occur after the agency altered some concession rules by publishing in the Official Gazette on September 2 of last year Resolution 5,987.

The new ANTT rules require it to analyze the possible conflicts between the new project and existing infrastructures in the area, resulting in the denial of the requests.

The Ministry of Transportation also made some requests to explore the section planned in the project for the construction of a new railway by Suzano.

Thus, obtaining approval for the venture becomes even more distant for the railway company.

This is because Eldorado Celulose has already signed a contract with the ANTT in December 2021 to build a railway line interconnecting the two cities, with a length of 88.9 kilometers and investments of R$ 890 million.

This gives the company priority in construction according to the new rules established by the agency.

The resolution creates a loophole for pending requests with the same layout to face technical difficulties in being obtained.

ANTT Analyzes Project For The Construction Of A Rail Dedicated To “Shortline” In Três Lagoas, Also Submitted By The Company

In addition to the billion-dollar railway request proposed by Suzano, the ANTT is currently analyzing another proposal from the company.

This involves a railway branch dedicated to “shortline” of 24.7 kilometers in the municipality of Três Lagoas, which will connect the Arco do Contorno of Rumo Malho Oeste (RMO) to two pulp production units.

The construction project is smaller and has projected investments in the realm of R$ 170 million if approved.

Suzano explained that the project “starts in a line parallel to the current arc of the contour of Três Lagoas in a section to be adjusted for mixed gauge, and will have a local extension to serve as an entry-waiting yard with a useful length of 1,800 m.”

If this project is approved by the ANTT, the company will have a total of three requests accepted by the agency.

This is because, in January 2022, the agency authorized the company to sign a contract to construct 231 kilometers of railway connecting Ribas do Rio Pardo to Inocência.

Now, Suzano awaits ANTT’s deliberation regarding the future of its project for the construction of the new railway in Mato Grosso do Sul.
