Master New Languages for Free! IFSC Opens Enrollment for Free English, Spanish, and Sign Language Courses with In-Person Classes and Guaranteed Certification.

Have you ever imagined boosting your resume by learning English, Spanish, or Sign Language for free? Well, this chance has arrived, and the deadline is very short: the Federal Institute of Santa Catarina (IFSC) has opened enrollment for free language courses with certification valid throughout Brazil.

This is the ideal opportunity for those looking to take a leap in their careers, stand out in selection processes, or simply expand their communication possibilities in an increasingly connected world.

A Qualification That Opens Doors

Speaking another language has ceased to be a differentiator and has become a requirement in many professional areas. Mastery of foreign languages such as English and Spanish, in addition to learning Sign Language, is valued both in the job market and in the academic environment.

According to research from the Catholic University of America, professionals who master a second language can earn up to 20% more in salaries.

Thinking about this scenario, the Public Notice No. 23/2025/2 – Professional Qualification in Languages from IFSC offers in-person spots across different campuses.

The proposal is to democratize access to quality, free, and short-duration courses, with a 60-hour workload, aimed at the linguistic and cultural training of participants.

Where Are the Available Spots

The courses take place at different IFSC units, allowing students and workers from various regions to have access to this training. Here are some options confirmed in the public notice:

  • Jaraguá do Sul – Center: Basic Sign Language (20 spots).
  • Tubarão Campus: Spanish Level 5 (15 spots).
  • Tubarão Campus: English Level 2 (15 spots in the afternoon + 7 spots in the evening).

The classes will be in-person, in evening or afternoon groups, according to each campus. Furthermore, students will participate in assessments and leveling activities to ensure that everyone progresses according to their level of knowledge.

The rector of IFSC, Maurício Gariba Júnior, stated: “The proposal is to offer the public an accessible and quality training, valuing language learning as a tool for inclusion and professional development”.

Candidate Selection Will Be Done Through Public Electronic Lottery, Broadcast Live on IFSC’s Official YouTube Channel

Unlike other selection processes, the choice of students will be made through a public electronic lottery, broadcast live on IFSC’s official YouTube channel.

This transparency is reinforced with the disclosure of the “seed” used in the lottery, allowing for complete auditing.

All applicants receive a number and the ranking is defined by the order drawn. The results will be published directly on the official IFSC website, where the waiting list will also be available.

Rules for Enrolling in English, Spanish, and Sign Language Courses

To compete for a spot, the candidate must meet some basic criteria:

  • Have completed elementary education;
  • Be at least 16 years old;
  • In the more advanced courses (such as Spanish Level 5 and English Level 2), present approval in the previous module or take an online leveling test offered by IFSC;
  • Have access to a computer or mobile phone with internet to confirm enrollment and monitor results.

These requirements ensure that the free courses are aimed at those who truly wish to dedicate themselves and grow in the area.

Important Dates You Can’t Miss

The schedule defined by the public notice is as follows:

  • Enrollment: from August 11 to 27, 2025 (the last day is today);
  • Public Lottery: August 29, at 3:30 PM;
  • First Call and Waiting List Announcement: September 2, starting at 6 PM;
  • Performance Bulletin: September 3, starting at 6 PM.

Approved Students Receive Certification in English, Spanish, or Sign Language, Recognized Nationwide

In addition to studying at one of the most respected institutions in the country, approved students receive a certification recognized throughout the country, which adds value to their resume in job applications and public competitions.

It’s worth noting that learning Sign Language is also a tool for social inclusion, essential to expand accessibility in companies, schools, and public services. On the other hand, English and Spanish are indispensable in areas such as tourism, foreign trade, and technology, sectors that have grown significantly in Brazil, according to CNI data.

So, are you going to miss out? If you’re seeking professional growth, new opportunities, or simply want to learn something new, don’t let this chance pass by. Hurry because today, August 27, is the last day to secure your enrollment.
