Argentina Is About to Enter a New Phase in Air Defense with the Arrival of the First Six Operational F-16 Fighters by the End of 2025. This Delivery Is Part of a Contract Signed with Denmark in Early 2024, Involving the Purchase of 24 Second-Hand Aircraft. The Remaining 18 Fighters Will Be Delivered Over the Next Three Years, Marking a Major Advance for the Argentine Air Force.

The first batch of operational F-16 fighters, consisting of six units, will be delivered by the end of 2025. These aircraft will initially be directed to the Material Area of Río Cuarto, while the VI Air Brigade of Tandil undergoes structural renovations to accommodate the new fighters.

In the following three years, the remaining 18 aircraft will arrive in the country, totaling 24 units acquired in the agreement with Denmark. With this, Argentina will take a significant step in modernizing its defense fleet.

The Contract with Denmark and the Details of the Negotiation

Argentina plans to have a total of 24 F-16 fighters, acquired from Denmark in a US$ 300 million contract. The first six will arrive by the end of 2025, while the other 18 will be delivered in the following three years.

The purchase of the F-16 aircraft was formalized in early 2024, with an estimated investment of US$ 300 million. The contract includes not only the fighters but also advanced weaponry, engines, spare parts, four flight simulators, and complete training for pilots and ground technicians.

The agreement guarantees a supply of parts for five years, ensuring the maintenance of the fleet and the training of the Argentine Air Force to operate the new fighters efficiently.

The Arrival of the Trainer Fighter and the Preparations of the Air Force

Before the arrival of the operational aircraft, Argentina received an F-16B MLU Block 10, a unit designated exclusively for the training of pilots and ground technicians. The aircraft was assembled at the VI Air Brigade in Tandil and was designated as “number 25.” Although it is part of the agreement, this fighter will not be used in operational missions.

The VI Air Brigade of Tandil is undergoing renovations to receive the operational F-16s. Meanwhile, the first aircraft will be temporarily allocated to the Material Area of Río Cuarto.

Modernization of Argentine Defense with the F-16

The acquisition of F-16 fighters represents a significant leap in Argentina’s defensive capacity. The new system will replace the old Mirage aircraft, retired after more than four decades of service. With this, the Argentine Air Force will have a high-technology supersonic fighter, aligned with international defense standards.

The introduction of the F-16 into the Argentine arsenal positions the country within NATO standards, joining a select group of over 20 nations that operate this aircraft.

The F-16 Fighting Falcon and Its Strategic Importance

The F-16 Fighting Falcon is a fourth-generation single-engine supersonic fighter, known for its high versatility and maneuverability. Designed to operate in various weather conditions, it is widely used in attack, defense, and reconnaissance missions.

With this acquisition, Argentina strengthens its strategic position in South America and enhances its military capabilities, ensuring greater security and modernization of its air force.
