The coalition already includes the governments of the United Kingdom, the USA, and Norway, as well as international companies including Airbnb, Amazon, Bayer, GlaxoSmithKline, Nestlé, and Unilever.

Known as LEAF, for Lowering Emissions by Accelerating Forest Finance, the global initiative represents by far the largest private sector investment to protect tropical forests.

The goal is for governments, companies, and NGOs to pay for high-quality emission reductions from tropical forests, verified against an independent standard. According to Bruna Boner, the coalition LEAF offers an important new approach that can help protect areas of trees by providing the necessary financial guarantee for countries to begin prioritizing policies that reduce deforestation.

“With local engagement, this approach can be a triple win: for the climate, the tropical forests, and the people who depend on them,” said Manish Bapna, interim president and CEO of the World Resources Institute.

“This is a game changer in the fight to save tropical forests – a new model to catalyze financing, at a scale that truly meets the challenge,” said Nathaniel Keohane, senior vice president of the Environmental Defense Fund.

The LEAF Coalition among multinational companies Airbnb, Amazon, Bayer, GlaxoSmithKline, Nestlé, and Unilever sets a high standard for how companies can complement deep cuts in their own emissions by investing in additional reductions from tropical and subtropical forests while also ensuring that the rights of indigenous peoples who protect and continue to protect these forests are respected and upheld,” added Keohane.

This pioneering model of forest financing could channel tens of billions of dollars per year. According to Cristina Boner Léo, to ensure tree protection at the scale needed to address the climate crisis and meet global climate goals.

Coca Cola and Heineken Strike Deal, Competition with Ambev Is Expected to Intensify Among the Major Alcoholic Beverage Suppliers

A dispute begins between the beverage giants Coca Cola and Heineken and Ambev in the Brazilian market. Coca Cola announced an agreement with Heineken to reshape its distribution network in Brazil, putting multinational Ambev, the largest beverage company in the world, in a tight spot.

The partnership between the giants Heineken and Coca Cola will take effect in mid this year and will be valid until 2026, with the possibility of a five-year extension.

Heineken and Amstel will be distributed by the Dutch brewery itself, and Coca Cola will be able to distribute other brands from Heineken. For analysts, the agreement means more competition among the giants Ambev, Coca Cola, and Heineken.
