Petrobras Will Raise Gasoline Prices by 3.3% Starting This Thursday (12). The Average Adjustment is R$ 0.09 per Liter, Raising the Selling Price at Its Refineries to R$ 2.78 per Liter

Petrobras announced on Wednesday (08/11) the adjustment of gasoline prices, which will take effect starting this Thursday (08/12). According to the state-owned company, the fuel will increase from R$ 2.69 to R$ 2.78 at the refineries, reflecting an average adjustment of R$ 0.09 or 3.34% per liter. Throughout this year, gasoline has accumulated a 51% increase. From January to this month of August, the fuel has undergone eight price hikes. In a Statement, The State-Owned Company Explains the Increase in Gasoline Prices

“Starting tomorrow, following the rise in international price levels, and in order to ensure that the market continues to be supplied without risks of shortages, the average selling price of Petrobras gasoline to distributors will be R$ 2.78 per liter, reflecting an average adjustment of R$ 0.09 per liter,” the company emphasized in a statement.

Petrobras also stated that its contribution to the pump price will now be R$ 2.03 per liter on average, referring to the mandatory blend of 73% gasoline A and 27% anhydrous ethanol. Until it reaches the consumer, federal and state taxes, costs for purchasing and mandatory mixing of anhydrous ethanol, as well as the costs and margins of distribution companies and resellers are added, the company concluded.

Recently, the fuel price survey from ValeCard, for the month of June, showed a 1.41% increase in gasoline, with the liter sold at an average of R$ 5.915. For the first half of the year, the increase in Brazil is 25.48%. Only in Mato Grosso does it make sense to switch to ethanol.

The high prices of gasoline, diesel, and cooking gas did not prevent Petrobras from increasing fuel prices again on July 6, which began with a hit to the wallets of truck drivers and millions of Brazilians suffering from disproportionate increases in relation to current income. The new increase, which took effect starting yesterday, surprised the management of the National Council of Cargo Transportation – CNTRC, considering that there had been a “positive” meeting of the entity held just a week ago with the president of Petrobras.

Petrobras announced that it intends to invest about US$ 300 million in refineries that are not on the divestment plan. The state-owned company’s announcement indicates that the investments are primarily aimed at increasing the efficiency and performance of the assets. The Petrobras refineries that will receive the investments are Presidente Bernardes, Duque de Caxias, Capuava, Paulínia, and Henrique Lage, all located in the states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

Petrobras announced a program called RefTOP – World-Class Refining, aimed at being among the best oil refineries in the world. This program is part of Petrobras’s Strategic Plan 2021-2025, with an investment of US$ 3.7 billion, of which US$ 300 million will be allocated to the refineries. The RefTOP program also aims to position Petrobras more competitively in the opening market of oil refineries in Brazil. The state-owned company further stated that it assessed global benchmarks of key refining indicators to set the program’s objectives.

In a statement sent to the Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM), Petrobras indicated that the program includes initiatives to enhance the energy performance of the refineries, making better use of inputs such as natural gas, electricity, and steam in operations. RefTOP will promote the intensive use of digital technologies, automation, and robotization in Petrobras’s refineries.
