Rapid Growth Marks Brazilian Presence in the Global MRO Market
Inserted in a global Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) market valued at US$ 616.01 billion in 2020 and projected to reach US$ 701.30 billion by 2026, Melhor Indústria, a Brazilian startup, is experiencing a meteoric rise in the sector. Following this success, it reported a remarkable 180% growth in Gross Merchandise Volume (GMV) in May of this year compared to the same period last year, as well as a significant 77% increase from April 2023.
The Trajectory of Melhor Indústria
Founded in 2021, Melhor Indústria already has over 4,000 registered buyers on its platform and more than 100 sellers. The startup’s main differentiator is its comprehensive MRO catalog, with competitive prices and favorable terms, making the platform an advantageous option for sellers and an alternative sales channel with no fixed cost. The platform has gained relevance in various regions of Brazil, with the highest presence in São Paulo (25%), Paraná (20%), Rio de Janeiro (10%), and Santa Catarina (10%).
The founder of Melhor Indústria, Fernando Belmonte, driven by the digital revolution, saw in the marketplace the opportunity to reinvent the MRO sector. An electrical engineer with a specialization in digital systems from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Belmonte was inspired to create an MRO marketplace in Brazil after helping a German partner establish a similar platform in Europe.

Growth and Consolidation in the MRO Sector
In Brazil, the platform has gained prominence in sectors such as automotive, beverages, food, and heavy industry. It offers over 200 recognized brands, including Siemens, WEG, Schneider, and ABB, and has more than 100 suppliers, ensuring product diversity, competitive prices, and a comprehensive catalog.
The effectiveness of Melhor Indústria’s business model is evidenced by the remarkable 720% growth in its GMV throughout 2022. The platform saw a 100% increase in the number of sellers and a 200% rise in the number of buyers during the past year.
According to Belmonte, the increase in e-commerce usage, driven by the pandemic, contributed to the rapid expansion of Melhor Indústria. The founder plans to open branches in industrialized countries in Latin America, as well as triple the company’s revenue this year. “Our goal is to be the ‘Store for All MRO’, inspired by Jeff Bezos’ quote from Amazon, for all segments of industry,” emphasizes Fernando.
