Barge Carrying Modules M-15 and M-16 from P-71 Partially Capsizes This Saturday, May 18, Heading to Espírito Santo.
An unusual episode in the Brazilian oil and gas market marked last Saturday, May 18. The non-propelled barge Locar V, which was sailing towards Espírito Santo carrying two generation modules from FPSO P-71, partially capsized on Saturday night, about 120 km from the coast of Itajaí – SC, reports the website Petronoticias. The good news is that there were no fatalities or injuries, and the environment is also not expected to be affected by an oily waste leak.
The ship TS Favorito, from Tranship, was towing the vessel Locar V, which was transporting modules M-15 and M-16 towards Espírito Santo to be integrated into the P-71 platform.

Technically, the modules were lost; they went partially underwater, with part of them floating submerged along with their cargo. As of now, it is unclear what triggered the accident.
The barge Locar V is owned by Locar Guindastes e Transportes Intermodais. The crew of the tugboat TS Favorito is keeping the vessel stable and is maneuvering to maintain observation of the Locar V barge and its cargo due to bad weather.
The hull of P-71 is being built in China, but the integration of the modules will take place in the first half of 2020 at the Jurong Shipyard in Aracruz – ES. The platform was scheduled to operate in the Sururu field in the Santos Basin.
P-71 is the last of the six replicant FPSOs contracted by the company. Initially, the unit’s hull was to be built by the Ecovix group at the Rio Grande Shipyard – RS, but the contract was canceled with 30% of the work completed after Engevix was cited in Operation Lava Jato.
Activities to remove more than 100,000 tons of structures belonging to P71 and P72 are being carried out, and they are being sold as scrap. The sales of steel from the P71 and P72 platforms began in April and are part of Ecovix’s judicial recovery plan, approved by the courts in August 2018.
