Barge carrying modules M-15 and M-16 of the P-71 partially sinks this Saturday, May 18, heading to Espírito Santo.

An unusual episode in the Brazilian oil and gas market marked last Saturday, May 18th. The barge without propulsion Locar V that was sailing towards Espírito Santo carrying two FPSO P-71 generation modules, partially sank on Saturday night, when it was about 120 km off the coast of Itajaí – SC, reports the Petronoticias website. The good news is, there were no deaths or injuries and the environment should also not be affected by leaking oily waste.

The ship TS Favorito, from the company Tranship, was towing the vessel Locar V that was transporting the M-15 and M-16 modules towards Espírito Santo to be integrated into the P-71 platform.

Technically, the modules were lost, they partially sank, with a part floating submerged together with its cargo. So far it is not known what triggered the accident.

The barge Locar V is owned by Locar Guindastes e Transportes Intermodalis. The crew of the Tugboat TS Favorito keeps the vessel stable and performs maneuvers so that it can remain under observation of the Locar V Ferry and its cargo due to bad weather.

O The P-71 hull is being built in China, but the integration of the modules will take place in the first half of 2020 at Estaleiro Jurong in Aracruz -ES. The platform was expected to operate in the Sururu field, in the Santos Basin.

The P-71 is the last of the six replicant FPSOs contracted by the company. Initially, the unit would have its hull built by the Ecovix group, at Estaleiro Rio Grande – RS, but the contract was canceled with 30% of the work completed, after Engevix was cited in Operation Lava Jato.

Removal activities of more than 100 thousand tons of structures that belonged to P71 and P72 are being carried out and they are being sold as scrap. Sales of steel from platforms P71 and P72 began in April and are part of Ecovix's judicial recovery plan, approved in August 2018 by the Justice.
