The new unit of the wind energy complex will have about 63 MW and is expected to generate renewable and sustainable energy for the equivalent consumption of 130,000 homes. Santa Martina 9, financed by BNDES, is part of the Rio do Vento Wind Complex, one of the largest wind energy complexes in the world.
The implementation of the unit of the wind energy complex is expected to create job opportunities for over 350 people, both directly and indirectly, increasing income and promoting social equality for local families. This number is equivalent to over 10% of the total population employed in the four municipalities, which was about 3,480 in 2018 according to IBGE data.

Financing Represents a Lot for the Brazilian Energy Transition
According to Petrônio Cançado, Director of Credit and Guarantee at BNDES, the financing of the new unit of the Ventos de Santa Martina wind energy complex demonstrates the bank’s commitment to supporting the renewable energy matrix in the country. He states that there will be around 63 MW of installed capacity that will come into operation in 2022.
The BNDES financing of R$ 216.7 million will be granted to the Specific Purpose Society Ventos de Santa Artur Energias Renováveis S.A. The expectation is that part of the unit of the complex will come into operation by the end of the last semester of this year, along with the first wind turbine of the wind energy park.
Other Investments in Renewable Energy from BNDES
Last year, the bank signed contracts with Engie Brasil for an estimated amount of R$ 1.243 billion to implement the Campo Largo Wind Energy Complex – Phase 2, in the municipalities of Sento Sé and Umburanas, in the state of Bahia.
This project has an installed capacity of 361.2 MW, equivalent to the energy consumption of 850,000 homes. Also last year, BNDES invested in the construction of the Ventos de Santa Martina 14 wind energy park, also part of the Rio do Vento wind complex, with the amount of R$ 208 million.
According to ABEEólica, the HDI in municipalities that receive this type of investment grows by about 20% compared to before.
