More Than R$ 417 Million from BNDES for Financing Wind Power Plants and Strengthening the Renewable Energy Industry in RN
The National Bank for Economic and Social Development – BNDES approved this week two financing agreements that will be allocated for the construction of the wind power plants Ventos de Santa Martina 01 and Ventos de São Januário 23, which will be located in the municipalities of Caiçara do Rio do Vento and Ruy Barbosa, in the state of Rio Grande do Norte – RN. The total amount of credit invested in the renewable energy industry will be R$ 417 million.

Details of BNDES Financing and Works of Wind Power Plants
The two wind power plants together total approximately 121.8 MW of installed capacity and will produce renewable energy equivalent to the consumption of 242,000 households, generating around 775 jobs, both direct and indirect.
These renewable energy projects belong to the Casa dos Ventos group and are also part of the Rio do Vento Wind Complex, whose first phase is already under construction. It is estimated that, when fully operational, it will be capable of surpassing the mark of 1 GW, potentially becoming one of the largest wind complexes in Brazil and the world.

Benefits to the Environment and the Population of RN from Investments in the Renewable Energy Market
The generation of renewable and clean energy that these two new wind farms will produce could prevent approximately 1.3 million tons of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere annually. However, a significant contributor to making the benefits of this non-polluting energy perceptible, according to studies, would be the planting of 9 million trees to offset this amount of carbon dioxide.
During the construction, part of the funds financed by BNDES will be allocated to the acquisition of national wind turbines. These devices are responsible for converting wind energy into electricity.
Another portion of the funds will go towards investment in civil works, electromechanical systems, and the construction of transmission lines associated with the plants.
