Volkswagen, the world's largest vehicle producer, stops developing and manufacturing gasoline and diesel combustion engines to focus on electric cars

The multinational Audi, belonging to the Volkswagen Group, had already announced recently that would not develop any more combustion engines and that the automaker's focus will be on manufacturing electric cars. Now, the German herself has joined the idea and the head of the brand has announced the end of development and manufacturing this type of propellant, whether gasoline or diesel.

According to information from Ralf Brandstätter, CEO of Volkswagen, in an interview with Automobilwoche, the German automaker will only continue to update and revise the current gasoline and diesel combustion engines in order to make them more efficient. The reason for this measure is that the multinational will invest heavily in the manufacture and production of electric cars.

The executive did not say for how long we will contemplate the gasoline and diesel engines in Volkswagen cars, but, what everything indicates, is that they should remain for the next 10 years.

Although the automaker wants half of its sales in Europe to be fully electric cars by 2030, cars with gasoline and diesel combustion engines will remain, which is the case with the Golf and Tiguan, which should gain another generation.

One of the challenges of the giant Volkswagen for the implementation of electric cars are countries like Brazil, where there is little action and incentive for the adoption of electrified vehicles. With all the challenge, VW intends to launch by 2023, in Brazil, 6 models of electric or hybrid cars. One of them will be the eighth-generation Golf, which will be launched in a GTE hybrid version.

Volkswagen “throws in the towel”, gives up being the “largest manufacturer in the world” and hands the title to rival Toyota on a platter

Now, the German automaker will fully focus its efforts on internal improvements, abandoning combustion engines and focusing on electric cars – an area that the company is already ahead of rival Toyota. Thus, the company says goodbye to the battle with Toyota for the crown of the automobile industry.

With Volkswagen “throwing in the towel”, Japan's Toyota should remain the largest automaker in terms of volume and lead the car market over the next few years.

In a move contrary to that of Ford, the German automaker invests in production and in a factory in SP

Pablo di Si, executive president of the multinational Volkswagen in Amélica Latina, announced in an interview with Reuters, on the 7th, the commitment to launch a new investment cycle in Brazil. According to the executive, the details of the investment will be announced at the end of the year by the Group's Global CEO, Herbert Diess.

So far this year, Volkswagen has become Brazil's best-selling brand, replacing General Motors Co (GM.N) after many years as GM's production in Brazil has been disrupted in part more than Volkswagen's by a global shortage of chips.
