LATAM Cargo carried out a special operation that placed Brazil at the center of the map of high genetics agribusiness. On two freighter flights between Viracopos, Campinas, and Quito, Ecuador, the company transported 110 Gir Leiteiro breed cattle, requiring uncommon logistical and sanitary preparation for the air sector.
The operation was conducted in partnership with AlvoAgro, specialized in the export of live animals, reinforcing animal welfare and safety protocols. The animals originated from farms in Minas Gerais and São Paulo and underwent quarantine in Uberaba before traveling by road to Campinas for boarding.
More than transportation, the shipment serves a strategy: accelerating genetic improvement in herds in hot and humid climates in Ecuador, where the demand for adapted genetics is consistently growing.

According to LATAM Cargo and industry reports, the preparation included equipment validation, contingency plans, and continuous monitoring until delivery at the destination. This is a standard used for high-value live shipments, with attention to ventilation and density per bay.
The Viracopos Airport was chosen for its road access and infrastructure for handling special cargo, facilitating connections between the Uberaba region — a hub for zebu genetics — and the international corridor to Quito.
Upon arriving in Ecuador, the cattle were distributed among rural properties, with the goal of increasing productivity and resilience of the herds and supporting local improvement programs.

The Gir Leiteiro is recognized for its hardiness and heat tolerance, critical attributes for humid equatorial and Andean countries. By bringing in this genetic material, Ecuador seeks rapid performance gains in production systems under thermal stress.
Technical and industry reports highlight that the Ecuadorian strategy involves importing genetic resources adapted to the tropics, reducing vulnerabilities to high temperatures and typical sanitary challenges in the region.
In this context, Brazil positions itself as a supplier of tropical genetics and logistical services capable of fulfilling bilateral sanitary protocols with predictability and speed. The expected result is an increase in efficiency per cow in milk production and a better productive response in hot environments, contributing to food security and the competitiveness of Ecuadorian producers.
