Brazil started exporting energy to Argentina through Tradener this weekend starting at 0:00 am on Saturday. In accordance with Regulation No. 272/2020, national traders were authorized by the Ministry of Mines and Energy on July 9. The entire operating process is generated by the Norte Fluminense Engie thermal power plants. The contract was signed directly with the Companhia Gestora do Mercado Mayorista Eléctrico SA (Cammesa) which in Brazil is represented by Tradener.

All exports to Argentina are carried out through the national transformation plants Garabi I and II, which generate up to 2200 MW.

Walfrido Avila, president of Tradener said “This is equivalent to one and a half times the power of a Binacional Itaipu machine. It is a complex, large-scale operation, which shows the efforts of Tradener and the thermal generators, bringing more foreign exchange to Brazil”.

The president also commented that the action was carried out with the participation of Banco Itaú and Junto Seguradora (from the Paraná Banco Group), which guaranteed the action system with full support from the CCEE (Electricity Trading Chamber) and ONS (National Electricity Operator ), who participated fully in the process, direct and coordinate all operations.

Merchants have a valid authorization to export interruptible energy to Argentina: until December 31, 2022, exports cannot cause an increase in the cost of Brazil's energy sector, therefore they must be inspected by the National Electricity Agency
