End of Burj Khalifa? 1 Kilometer Tall Building in Sorocaba Announced and Promises to Be the Tallest in the World. Megaproject Will Be 200 Meters Taller than That in the United Arab Emirates.

After Balneário Camboriú announced the construction of the tallest residential building in the world, another city in Brazil revealed a project for a 1 kilometer tall building in Sorocaba, marking the end of Burj Khalifa in the United Arab Emirates. Understand everything about this Brazilian megaproject that promises to surprise the world.

1 Kilometer Tall Building in Sorocaba Will Cost R$ 2 Billion

Last week, the Sorocaba City Hall announced the project to construct the tallest building in the world, which will be located in the city center of the São Paulo countryside, situated 104 kilometers away from the capital.

The building that will bring an end to Burj Khalifa will be made possible through a public-private partnership; however, there is no date for the start of construction or exact location. What is known is that the 1 kilometer tall building in Sorocaba will have 170 floors.

According to Mayor Rodrigo Manga, the construction of this megaproject, which surpasses the endeavor in the United Arab Emirates, will cost R$ 2 billion and aims to revitalize Sorocaba’s downtown and create a tourist attraction in the city. According to Manga, this part of the city is rich in history and should be increasingly valued.

Aware of the local potential, investments and tax incentives will be sought to attract enterprises and improve the quality of life for the population and bring “the end of Burj Khalifa.” This is Sorocaba making its mark in the history of Brazil and the world.

Find Out What Is Needed for the Tallest Building in Brazil to Become a Reality

Furthermore, according to the mayor, the construction of the tallest building in the world will create 5,000 new jobs in Brazil. It is worth mentioning that Mayor Rodrigo Manga gained national fame for his Instagram posts that showcase his management actions in the form of pranks or humorous skits.

To build the 1 kilometer tall building in Sorocaba, the city hall needs to revise the Master Plan to remove the height limit for constructions in downtown Sorocaba, as well as offer exemptions from permits and taxes to attract investments.

According to Manga, there are already companies interested in constructing the building that will bring an end to Burj Khalifa in the United Arab Emirates, but the mayor did not disclose which companies these are. Additionally, the new Master Plan needs to be approved by the City Council of Sorocaba, which will be presented in the coming weeks. With the approval of the plan, according to Rodrigo Manga, the city hall will be free to begin negotiations with investors.

According to the Mayor, the city is seeking speed in this project because it will undoubtedly accelerate investment and development in the city, continuing to place it in a position of national prominence. If the project materializes, the 1 kilometer tall building in Sorocaba will be the tallest in Brazil and the world, far surpassing the Senna Tower in Balneário Camboriú, which will stand at 509 meters.

The inspiration for the Brazilian megaproject is the Burj Khalifa, the tallest in the world, standing at 828 meters with 163 floors. However, before Sorocaba, the mega building in the United Arab Emirates will lose to another building: the Jeddah Tower, which will also reach 1 km in height, currently under construction in Saudi Arabia.

Unlike the building in Sorocaba, the construction of this megaproject is already underway, with 30% of the project completed, meaning the Brazilian city will only have the tallest building in the world if it increases its height, even if by a few meters.
