Chinese Manufacturer BYD Announced the Installation of Two Research Centers in Brazil, One in Camaçari (BA) and Another in Rio de Janeiro.

The Chinese automaker BYD announced on Thursday night (20) that it will have two research centers in Brazil. One will be installed in Bahia. The other is still under study and may be opened in Rio de Janeiro.

According to the company, the automotive research and innovation center will be established in Bahia. The proposal is to make the state a reference in the sector. The automaker stated that it aims to make the region the “Silicon Valley of South America.”

BYD’s factory in Camaçari, Bahia, is already under construction. The project is part of the company’s strategy to invest in Brazil.

In the statement, the company reiterated its commitment to sustainable development and the economic revitalization of the Bahian municipality.

Talks with Rio’s City Hall

On Wednesday (19), the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, stated that he was negotiating with BYD. The intention would be to bring the entire research and development area of the company to the capital of the state.

Initially, the company did not respond. Later, in the official statement, it confirmed that it is studying the creation of a second center in Rio. However, there is still no decision or scheduled date.

Expansion and Strategic Vision

BYD already operates in other Brazilian cities. It produces electric buses and components for solar energy in Campinas (SP) and batteries in Manaus (AM). With the new centers, the company aims to diversify its activities in the country.

Finally, the automaker stated that the project demonstrates its strategic vision of strengthening innovation in different regions of Brazil. Details about the center in Rio de Janeiro have yet to be disclosed.
