The lease includes, in addition to the Petrobras factories, the ammonia and urea maritime terminals at the Port of Aratu, in Bahia. The plan, according to company, is that the operation starts in early 2021.
Producer of ammonia, fertilizer urea, livestock urea, industrial urea, nitric acid, hydrogen and carbon dioxide, Fafen de Sergipe, located in the municipality of Laranjeiras, has been hibernating since the beginning of 2019. The factory's production capacity has reached 300 tons of ammonium sulfate per year, with exports to the whole world.

Since Petrobras started the company's hibernation, the Government has tried in different ways to find solutions so as not to lose production and activity of such proportion in the state, since Fafen has always been of great importance in the economic development of the Baixo Cotinguiba region.
According to the Government, to stimulate the resumption of Fafen, the reduction of Deso's water tariff by 50% was authorized. In addition, at the end of 2019, the State regulated the figures of the free consumer, self-importer and self-producer of natural gas, with the aim of adapting regional regulation to the federal one and doing its homework so that Proquigel makes Fafen viable. The expectation is that the new company will again provide jobs as soon as it starts operating, scheduled for March 2021.

Fafen-BA is a nitrogen fertilizer unit with an installed urea production capacity of 1.300 t/day, being able to sell ammonia, carbon dioxide and automotive liquid reducing agent (Arla 32). The Sergipe unit has an installed urea production capacity of 1.800 t/day, and is capable of selling ammonia, carbon dioxide and ammonium sulfate (also used as fertilizer).
