Based on guidelines from Febraban, Caixa maintains lower limit for withdrawals at ATMs during the night: from 10:01 PM to 5:59 AM, the limit drops to R$ 300, while from 6 AM to 10 PM it can reach R$ 2,000, and this also applies even with a higher daily limit in the customer’s account.
Throughout Brazil, customers of Caixa Econômica Federal who rely on ATMs outside of business hours are dealing with a rule that changes the routine at night: during night withdrawals, the available amount is reduced and can frustrate those who need cash.
Caixa informs that the restriction follows guidelines from Febraban and aims to reduce the risk of robberies and fraud. The reduction is automatically applied in the system, even for those who have a higher daily limit approved, and it becomes effective according to the exact time of the operation.
How Withdrawals at ATMs Work by Time
The rule is based on the operation’s clock.

At Caixa‘s ATMs, the withdrawals have a higher limit during the day and drop at night.
From 6 AM to 10 PM, the limit for withdrawals can reach R$ 2,000.
From 10:01 PM to 5:59 AM, the limit for withdrawals is R$ 300. Caixa explains that the change is automatic, without a request from the customer.
Why Caixa Applies a Lower Limit at Night
The central argument is safety.
By reducing the limit of withdrawals at night, Caixa aims to decrease exposure to robberies and the chance of losses in cases of fraud, especially during times with less circulation.
In practice, this requires planning for those who use cash for transport, work, and emergencies.
When possible, the most effective guidance is to anticipate withdrawals for daytime and avoid relying on ATMs at night.
Self-Service, Teller, and Banco24Horas: Variation by Channel
In addition to the time, the channel influences the limit.
At self-service terminals, Caixa indicates that the amount per transaction usually ranges between R$ 500 and R$ 1,500, with up to three daily withdrawals.
For in-person withdrawals, directly at the teller, the daily limit usually reaches R$ 2,000, but drops to R$ 300 between 11 PM and 5 AM, as an additional safety measure at night.
At the Banco24Horas Network, the limits follow a similar standard to Caixa’s ATMs, ranging between R$ 500 and R$ 1,500 depending on the type of account.
Lottery Outlets, Caixa Tem, and Caixa Fácil: Limits and Ranges Informed
Lottery outlets allow withdrawals between R$ 5 and R$ 5,000 for checking and savings accounts.
In the Caixa Fácil modality, the reported daily limit is R$ 3,000.
In Caixa Tem, the digital social savings account, the withdrawal per transaction ranges from R$ 20 to R$ 1,200. For traditional savings accounts, the withdrawal rule also considers up to three withdrawals per day.
Weekends and Holidays: Rule Applies in Brazil
Caixa informs that, on weekends and holidays, the limits for withdrawals are maintained, with no changes compared to weekdays.
This reinforces that the night restriction still applies and the daytime limit remains in effect, according to the time.
To avoid running out of cash, check the limit in the app, plan withdrawals in advance, and choose the channel most appropriate for your profile.
Have you ever tried to make withdrawals at ATMs at night and were surprised by the lower limit, or has this rule become standard in your routine?
