The Tesla Electric Truck Named ‘Semi’ Is Already Regarded As The Future Of Freight Transport.
The billionaire CEO of Tesla Motors, Elon Musk, confirmed a few weeks ago on his social media, Twitter, that deliveries of the Tesla Semi, the highly anticipated 100% electric freight truck from the American automaker, will take place later this year. Originally, Tesla’s 100% electric freight truck was announced in mid-2017, but only now has the company’s page been updated and official images of the electric truck have finally been released. It is likely that the images shared on Tesla’s official page depict the final design of the electric truck.
Technical Specifications Of The ‘Semi’, The New 100% Electric Freight Truck From Tesla Motors
The images revealed that the side mirrors of the electric model are quite conventional. So far, the only information provided by the American automaker is that only the long-range variant will actually be sold, with a range of around 800 km.
Its maximum gross vehicle weight for the 100% electric freight truck is over 37 tons (or 82,000 pounds), and the estimated electricity consumption is less than 2 kWh for every 1.6 km (1 mile). The electric truck can also be speedy even on inclines.

According to Tesla, the truck can reach a top speed of 96 km/h in just 20 seconds, and can maintain that limit even on steeper or more challenging terrains. The automaker has made available the ‘Tesla Megachargers,’ which are Tesla’s ultra-fast charging stations, promising to recover about 70% of range in just 30 minutes.
Orders For The 100% Electric Freight Truck From Tesla

Since the announcement of Tesla Motors’ electric truck, there have been various orders for the new vehicle from the American automaker.
Among the companies that have ordered the truck is PepsiCo, one of the giants in the food industry. PepsiCo ordered about 100 units of the 100% electric freight truck, aiming to achieve zero carbon (CO2) emissions at one of its manufacturing units located in California.
So far, the initial price announced by Tesla was around US$ 180,000. However, it is still unclear whether there will be any price adjustments or if it will remain the same as the estimated value in 2017.
Safety And Comfort
According to specifications on Tesla Motors’ official website, the ‘Semi’ truck has factory safety features that combine with all advanced braking and engine controls, aiming to provide maximum stability and traction in all possible conditions.
Regarding driver comfort, the driver’s seat is positioned centrally, providing better visibility for the driver of the electric truck, in addition to a fully electric architecture that, according to the company, “reduces the risk of rollover and cabin intrusion in case of an accident.”
The ‘Semi’ model is already seen as the future of truck transportation, outpacing giants like Volvo, Daimler, and Scania, traditional manufacturers of freight vehicles.
