Find Out Why The Caoa Chery Tiggo 7 Sport Conquered The Market, What Problems Owners Most Report, And How The CVT Transmission Became The Main Point Of Criticism.
In 2024, the Caoa Chery Tiggo 7 accumulated almost 31 thousand registrations, according to Fenabrave, a leap that placed the Sport version among the most chosen models in the segment and helped consolidate the brand on the radar of Brazilian consumers.
But the popularity did not come without wear and tear. With the expansion of the number of owners, reports of problems also increased, especially regarding the CVT transmission, which became the focus of criticism in owner groups and specialized communities.
Issues involving the behavior and durability of the mechanical set became part of the discussions about the vehicle.

In this content, we analyze the factors that drove the rise of the Tiggo 7 Sport, what the version really delivers, and why the transmission became the most sensitive point among owners.
The Ascent Of The Tiggo 7 Sport In The Brazilian Market
The highlight that the Tiggo 7 Sport achieved in the Brazilian market in 2024 has a direct explanation in the choices made by Caoa Chery.
Instead of betting solely on technology or style, the brand reversed traditional logic and made price the protagonist.
The strategy was effective: by starting sales at R$ 135 thousand — a price that would later be adjusted to R$ 147 thousand — the SUV attracted consumers looking for a more spacious model without exceeding the typical budget for compact utilities.
This move helped spur an impressive turnaround at dealerships.
The Tiggo 7 Sport, which had recorded 6,349 units sold in 2023, surged to a volume almost five times greater in the following year, consolidating its presence among the most sought-after medium SUVs.
Another element that favored this expansion was the size of the vehicle.

Many buyers were convinced by the dimensions — 4.50 meters long, 1.84 m wide, 1.70 m tall — and, especially, by the trunk of 525 liters, capable of accommodating larger families and longer trips.
What Changed In The Tiggo 7 Sport Version
To achieve a more competitive price, the manufacturer made adjustments to the package of offered items. Among the equipment removed are:
- panoramic sunroof
- 360° camera
- adaptive cruise control
- lane-keeping assist
- collision alert with automatic braking
Even so, the Tiggo 7 Sport continued to be offered with a list of equipment considered extensive for its price range, including:
- six airbags
- leather-trimmed seats
- 12.3” digital panel
- 10.25” multimedia system
- keyless entry
- induction charger
- power-folding mirrors
- 18” wheels
This combination maintained the model’s appeal, especially among families and drivers who prioritize interior space.
New Mechanical Set Of The Caoa Chery SUV Divides Opinions
Another relevant change was the replacement of the 1.6 turbo engine — the same used in the more expensive versions — for the 1.5 turboflex engine with 150 hp and 21.4 kgfm, coupled with the CVT that simulates nine gears.
And it is precisely this new transmission that has become a frequent target of complaints from owners.
In addition to citing higher-than-expected fuel consumption, many owners report unexpected failures, even in brand-new cars.
Problems With The CVT Transmission: What Do Owners Say?
The most emblematic account is from Hernando, from Porto Alegre (RS), published on Reclame Aqui.
He describes that the car had a defect shortly after purchase:
“On January 3, 2025, we picked up the Tiggo 7 Sport at the dealership in Porto Alegre (RS). We were very happy because the car is beautiful, has an impressive design, both inside and out, and very good drivability. The following weekend, we woke up early because we planned to go to Gramado to enjoy the new car on a trip. Before we hit the road, the car stopped in the middle of the street and, under no circumstances (sic), moved anymore. This happened eight days after we got the car, with [only] 247 km driven.”
The vehicle needed to be towed to the dealership, where technicians confirmed that the transmission needed to be replaced — a service that, according to what was informed to the customer, would take about 40 days.
Faced with the inconvenience, the consumer requested a refund of the amount paid within the legal deadline and also reimbursement for the expenses incurred with accommodation and transport.
The response from Caoa Chery confirmed the complete transmission replacement at no cost, as the car was still under warranty.
The company also informed that the vehicle was delivered back to the owner on February 6, 2025.

Even after the setback, Hernando stated:
“I have always been very well treated by the Caoa Chery SAC. They provided me with a replacement car while the transmission replacement was pending. I rated an 8 only for the delay in the replacement, but for everything else, I have no complaints.”
Another case is from Lislaine, which occurred in São Paulo.
“In October 2024, I acquired a Tiggo 7 Sport, with the vehicle picked up on 27/11/2024. On January 31, 2025, the vehicle had a Transmission Failure when trying to start it in the morning. I contacted the assistance center, requested a tow truck, and the car was removed to the dealership. Upon contacting the assistance center to request a replacement car, I was informed that the release is done within 48 hours after the diagnosis is presented by the dealership.”
In response, the company revealed that “the vehicle was properly repaired and picked up on February 5 from the dealership.”
The Tiggo 7 owner concluded with: “I was annoyed with the experience I had with the company. The repair was done, but the car went for diagnosis after two days at the dealership. Additionally, the replacement car was only released after the publication of this complaint.”

Why Do The Reports About The Tiggo 7 Sport Draw Attention?
The recurrence of complaints involving the CVT transmission worries future buyers, as many reports involve new cars with low mileage.
The situation reinforces the need to verify the history of the model and understand how the brand’s technical assistance has been handling the cases.
Despite commercial success, the Caoa Chery Tiggo 7 Sport coexists with the contradiction of being, at the same time, one of the best-selling SUVs in the country and one of those that accumulate the most reports of problems, according to owners.
Even so, the combination of interior space, list of equipment, and competitive price continues to ensure its prominent presence in dealerships.
