Carioca Engenharia, a company with 76 years of tradition in planning and executing large infrastructure projects, has signed a contract with ICTSI Rio, a subsidiary of International Container Terminal Services, Inc., one of the largest port companies in the world, for the extension of the quay of its terminal in Rio de Janeiro. This contract for the project, which will increase the length of the port by almost 100 meters, aims to enhance the port of Rio de Janeiro’s capacity to accommodate more and larger vessels, according to the website Portos e Navios.

The peculiarities of the soil, both on land and underwater, demanded the introduction of innovative techniques in the foundation phase for the placement of cased and precast piles up to 60 meters long. In the contract for the Port of Rio de Janeiro, the company will use the Ramlift, a floating pile driver owned by Carioca, measuring about 45 meters in length, 17 meters wide, and over 50 meters high from the tower. With driving power of over 20 tons-meter and equipped with hydraulic or pneumatic hammers powered by steam or compressed air, the Ramlift will be a key piece in executing this project.
