Toyota’s New Electric Car Aims to Outperform Competitors Porsche and Lotus, Features a Low and Wide Silhouette with Proportions Similar to a Mid-Engine Sports Car

The automotive giant Toyota will not leave sports cars behind in its leap to electric vehicles. They demonstrated this with the launch of the electric sports car that took place at the conference held by the brand, with Akio Toyota himself as the star. Toyota showed the world that they are not far behind other manufacturers in terms of electric cars, and they aim to outperform competitors Porsche and Lotus.

The electric sports car that carries the brand’s sports division insignia, Gazoo Racing, is one of 14 electric vehicles the Japanese company presented. Toyota showcased various types, showing concepts as diverse as an electric pickup, a small urban electric car, various SUVs, and even the Toyota e-Palette, as well as vehicles for shared mobility platforms. However, one of the most striking is the yellow sports car arranged among the other models present at the conference, presided over by Akio Toyoda, CEO of Toyota Motor Corporation.

According to Toyota’s CEO, “all the models present here will be launched in the coming years.” It is true that the brand did not mention anything about this model specifically (or any others present there), but showing it to the public revived the most passionate part of the Japanese company, merely commenting that “car fans like Akio Toyoda will definitely not be disappointed. At the moment, we do not even have a nickname to refer to it.

It should be noted that Toyota, both as a manufacturer and as a major automotive group, enjoys a strong passionate component, with the main figure responsible for this being Akio Toyoda himself, who was seen a few days ago on the circuit aggressively driving the Toyota GR Yaris.

With a low and wide silhouette, the sports car displays proportions reminiscent of a mid-engine gasoline sports car. To replicate the behavior of this gasoline model, and thus consult the MR2, the brand could choose to provide this electric sports car with a battery stacked behind the cabin, in order to leave space on the rear axle for the electric motor.

The electric sports car from Toyota was not the only car of its kind presented today by Akio Toyoda, as it shared space with the Lexus Electrified Sport, the spiritual successor to the Lexus LFA, a sports car that, if all goes according to plan, will have solid-state battery technology to offer a range of 700 kilometers.
