BYD has just updated its Dolphin Mini electric car for the 2024 model year in China. The electric compact has received some updates in the cabin, as well as new battery options. However, the electric model has not changed its appearance. In any case, what impresses the most is its price, and according to the Chinese brand, the BYD Dolphin starts from 99,800 yuan for the entry-level Vitality, which is about R$ 70K in direct conversion without taxes.

BYD’s Electric Car for R$ 70K Delivers 420 Horsepower and Up to 302 Km of Range

In this price range, the BYD Dolphin Mini sets a new price standard for electric vehicles. In the lineup, the entry-level configuration comes with a 32 kWh battery with a range of 302 km, according to the Chinese cycle. Additionally, the electric car priced at R$ 70K is equipped with a 94-horsepower motor, the same as what is sold in Brazil. Next up is the Dolphin Free, priced from 112,800 yuan. Something around R$ 79K (direct conversion without taxes).

This variant of the BYD Dolphin features the same 94-horsepower electric motor but comes with a 45 kWh battery. This provides a range of approximately 420 km. It is worth mentioning that there are two more versions of the Dolphin in China.

One of them is the Fashion, which has the same setup as the cheaper versions but offers a more comprehensive technology package. In the Chinese market, this starts at 119,800 yuan, approximately R$ 84K. Finally, in the top-line Knight configuration, there is a more powerful motor with 174 horsepower and a 45 kWh battery. The range, according to the Chinese cycle, is 401 km.

The Chinese company also promises a new version that could achieve 520 km of range, but there is no forecast for its launch. In the BYD Dolphin’s cabin, some changes have been made. There is, for example, a wireless phone charger and USB-C ports.

In addition, the Chinese brand has also applied ventilated front seats, as well as independent suspension. According to the automaker, there will be new options in the portfolio of the completely electric compact.

So far, the brand has not confirmed whether these updates will come to other markets. In Brazil, the manufacturer just launched the Dolphin Mini, known as Seagull in the foreign market. The model will arrive in the country to take the title of the cheapest electric car, priced at around R$ 89K for the 4-seater configuration, which is in pre-sale. The 5-seater option followed, costing around R$ 115K.

Meet the BYD Dolphin Mini

The BYD Dolphin was officially launched in the country. The electric car comes equipped with a larger 38.8 kWh battery and a full equipment package. Available for reservations since last Sunday, the model was presented in 2023 as the smallest and cheapest model from the brand. After the initial batch offer with a R$ 10K bonus, regular sales of the urban electric car have now begun.

As one of the main launches of the year, the Dolphin attracted attention for the prospect of well-equipped electric vehicles priced around R$ 113K for the first time.

Additionally, the urban model was developed on a dedicated platform for electric vehicles, has a powertrain and battery setup with good energy efficiency, as well as having a above-segment equipment list and adequate space considering the segment.
