According to the Latest Projections from BNEF, Electric Car Sales Are Expected to Surpass Combustion Car Sales in the Coming Years in Some Countries
According to data from BNEF – BloombergNEF, a company that provides independent data, news, analysis, and insights, by the mid-2030s, electric cars will account for more than 50% of global sales and will surpass combustion cars. In Brazil, for example, due to its potential for biofuels, this parity will not happen in the short term. However, in the United States and many European countries, this situation could occur as early as 2024.

Projections and Sales of Electric Cars
Luiza Demôro, Head of Country Transition Trends at BNEF, says that with the decline in battery prices, electric cars should have reached the same level, meaning they could compete with combustion vehicles by the mid-2020s, but she emphasizes that this forecast does not apply to all countries.
She stated that as this change will be huge and rapid, it is estimated that electric car sales will exceed those already powered by fossil fuels in developed countries in the next decade. Luiza believes that this situation has already been in place for 10 to 15 years and is a very fundamental change that will impact many things, such as further accelerated declines in technology prices, the development of other technologies, and the exponential increase in energy demand.

Electric Car Projects in Brazil
Large Brazilian companies have taken the lead in reducing fleet pollution and contributed to meeting sustainable development goals. Thus, trucks and electric cars have started to become more common on the country’s streets in service activities.
CPFL Energia recently launched a pilot project in the city of Indaiatuba, in the state of São Paulo, using only electric cars to serve the company’s approximately 90,000 customers in the city. The project will also utilize 20 electric vehicles this year, including two exclusive trucks developed by Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus.
