The appearance of Moflin resembles a mix between a hamster and a chinchilla, a feature intended to generate immediate affective identification.
The compact shape and plush appearance reinforce the idea of a warm and friendly companion, enhancing the sensory experience of interaction.
Moreover, the project was developed through collaboration between Casio and Vanguard Industries, which directly contributed to the robotic engineering of the device.
As a complement, the product also includes Club Moflin, an additional service created to offer continuous support to users.
Among the benefits provided are maintenance, cleaning, and replacement of the robot’s plush “skin”, for an annual fee.
App Allows Tracking of Behavior Evolution
Another important element of the experience is the dedicated app for monitoring the robot.
Through it, users can observe how the personality of Moflin evolves over interactions.
This mechanism resembles the operation of the Tamagotchi, an electronic toy that became popular worldwide during the 1990s.
Just like that classic device, the robot’s behavior changes according to the type and frequency of interactions performed.
Charging System Simulates Robot’s Resting Time
A curious detail of the project lies in the charging mode of the device.
Unlike conventional robots, the Moflin recharges on a small bed, creating the impression that it is sleeping.
The full charging time is approximately three and a half hours.
After this period, the robot can operate for around five consecutive hours, maintaining constant presence beside the user.
New Approach to Technological Emotional Companionship
The proposal of Moflin represents a different approach to the concept of emotional companionship.
The device was designed to “live” indefinitely, without aging or diseases.
Thus, the experience offered by the robot aims to cater to people who desire affective companionship without the biological responsibilities of a real animal.
