Chevrolet Launches Program That Restores and Modernizes Classics Like Opala and Monza, Combining Period Originality and Updated Technology. Iconic Cars Will Be Sold at Auction, with Part of the Proceeds Going to Social Projects.
Chevrolet officially launched the Vintage program in Brazil, an initiative that restores and also “reimagines” classic cars from the brand in celebration of GM’s 100 years in the country.
The first cars presented are Opala SS 1979 (restomod), Monza 500 EF 1990, and Omega CD Irmscher 1994 — along with the S10 Rally 2004 adapted for urban use.
All will be sold at auction with part of the proceeds going to the GM Institute.

How Chevrolet Vintage Works
The project operates in two areas.
The Restoration mode seeks factory originality, following manuals, catalogs, and records of each unit to restore finishes, colors, and components according to the year and model.
The Restomod preserves the classic identity but upgrades mechanics and technology — a solution that improves drivability, comfort, and reliability for everyday use, without losing the period style.
According to GM, the vehicles are designed, supervised, and validated by the brand’s engineering team.
Before the auction, they undergo laboratory and track testing at the Cruz Alta Test Field in Indaiatuba (SP), with tests on vehicle dynamics, noise and vibration, drivability, roll, and braking to ensure parameters compatible with an old car.

Opala and Monza: The Return of Brazilian Icons
In the case of the Opala SS 1979, Chevrolet applies the restomod philosophy.
The classic six-cylinder 4.1 received electronic fuel injection and works with a five-speed Tremec manual transmission.
The setup gained brake and suspension updates, while the interior includes modern air conditioning — an intervention that preserves the SS aesthetic but delivers modern performance.
The Monza 500 EF 1990, the first national Chevrolet with electronic fuel injection, has been restored to replicate the “zero kilometer” standard.
The body was disassembled and repainted.
The engine was rebuilt with genuine parts.
Finishing items follow the specifications of the period, including details of screw treatment and internal components.

Omega Irmscher and S10 Rally: Technique and History
Among the restored vehicles, the Omega CD 1994 was described by GM as “in zero kilometer condition”.
In addition to reconstructing the body and finish with original or period supplier parts, the sedan received the Irmscher kit, which increases the 3.0 to 3.6 liters, adopted without altering the visual originality commitment of the project.
The S10 Rally 2004 revives a configuration developed for off-road competitions, such as the Rally dos Sertões, now adapted for street use.
The project preserves the authenticity of the preparation and incorporates adjustments for everyday use, focusing on safety and robustness.

Authenticity and Validation Criteria
In addition to historical curation, Chevrolet reports a meticulous research process — manuals, finishing samples, and technical databases — to define what to clean, restore, replace, or rebuild given the unavailability of parts in the market.
In some cases, GM’s Design Department leads visual interventions in the restomods, respecting the standards of the time or what could compose a historic concept car of the brand.
The company states that each project takes at least one year and that dynamic validation occurs in the largest test field in the Southern Hemisphere, where cars undergo evaluations of drivability, braking, and NVH (noise and vibration).
“Rescuing and transforming these models into unique collection pieces, with the rigor of our engineering, is a way to honor the legacy and offer something special to enthusiasts,” said Santiago Chamorro, president of GM South America.

Auction: What We Already Know
All vehicles in the first batch will be offered in in-person and virtual auctions.
GM reports that the first auction will take place in 2025, with two models opening the sales, and that part of the proceeds will be allocated to social projects of the GM Institute.
The company does not accept, in this program, vehicles from third parties.
The specimens are selected and prepared by the brand itself.
Which Models Compose the Collection
The first series of the Vintage program brings together 10 vehicles produced in Brazil between the 1960s and 2000s.
In addition to the four already shown and the Kadett GSi 1992 (in finalization), GM confirms that there will be a C10 equipped with a Camaro V8 powertrain and mentions the 3100 Brasil as the pioneer among the national pickups.
Other names suggested by specialized media include Opala SS 1976, Chevette Rally 1974, and D20 Conquest 1996 — all under the same technical curation and engineering validation.
Why Now
The automaker associates the initiative with the centenary of GM in the country and the growth of classic car enthusiasm among new generations, with a valuation of neoclassics (around 30 years old) like Kadett, Omega, and early S10.
The promise is for thematic collections, revealed in phases, maintaining expectation and exclusivity among collectors.
