Last week, the media reported that GM was about to launch the new generation Chevrolet Equinox SUV with hybrid powertrain in the Chinese market. After all, unlike initial plans, the brand decided to reverse course and focus solely on electric cars. This time, more details were released, and the new Chevrolet SUV sold in the Asian country will indeed have a plug-in electric motor combined with a 1.5-liter combustion engine.
New Chevrolet SUV Delivers 188 Horsepower
In the foreign market, where it will be available in stores at the end of this month, the Chevrolet Equinox SUV will be produced in partnership with SAIC. In Brazil, where it is also expected to be sold, from mid-2025, it will come through Mexico.
This, in summary, facilitates importation and makes the Chevrolet Equinox SUV cheaper at Brazilian dealerships, the result of an agreement between the two Latin countries. The new Chevrolet SUV, called Equinox Plus PHEV in the Chinese market, is basically the same model sold in the North American market in terms of aesthetics.

Initially, the new Chevrolet Equinox guarantees 155 km solely in electric mode. The capacity of the lithium iron phosphate batteries has not been officially disclosed. The consumption, however, is 95.2 km/l, as explained by the brand.
SUV Chevrolet Equinox Is 120 kg Lighter
In terms of design, the generation of the new Chevrolet SUV has become more beautiful and robust. Chevrolet adopted a new design line for its SUVs, inspired by its pickups, which will certainly appeal to Brazilians. At the front, the Equinox features full LED headlights divided into Black Piano in the RS version, chrome in the ELT, and mixed in the Active, along with a sporty bumper for all versions.
On the sides, there are 17, 19, or 20-inch wheels, and its rear stands out with an integrated spoiler, full LED taillights, a different bumper with Black Piano or Gray finish, which deviates from the current market trend of interconnected taillights.
The new Chevrolet SUV maintains the same length of 4.65 meters but now has a wheelbase of 2.73 m. The width is 1.90 m, the height is 1.65 m, and the SUV now weighs 1,550 kg, making it 120 kg lighter.

On the inside, the Chevrolet Equinox SUV finally delivers a worthy finish, with the entire upper part of the dashboard and doors covered in soft-touch material, contrasting with the hard plastic of the current generation. The interior space remains great, offering comfort for 5 adults.
The equipment list is highlighted and promises to be the attraction, with items such as panoramic sunroof, keyless entry with remote start, electric tailgate with proximity sensor, Park Assist, electronic parking brake, driving mode selector, wireless phone charging, ambient LED lighting, and much more.
