Chevrolet Onix 2026 Debuts Facelift, Brings New Engine, More Technology, and Maintains Price to Win Over Consumers Attentive to News in the Brazilian Automotive Segment. Model Achieves Up to 14.3 km/l with Ethanol.

The Chevrolet Onix 2026 was officially announced this Tuesday (08) and arrives in the Brazilian market with important changes, maintaining the suggested price compared to the previous generation and betting on more technology, enhancements in the engine, and new finishing details.

According to Renato Maia, in a video published on the channel Falando de Carro, the model received its first significant facelift since its launch, highlighting the new fully LED optical set, including turn signals and daytime running lights (DRL), in addition to updates in the front and standard equipment that enhance the appeal of both the hatch and sedan.

New 1.0 Turbo Engine and Reinforced Timing Belt

Among the main innovations revealed by Renato Maia is the change in the engine’s timing belt, one of the most discussed items among consumers.

As presented, the Onix 2026 retains the 1.0 turbo three-cylinder engine, which now features direct fuel injection.

Despite this innovation, the power remains at 116 horsepower, with a maximum torque of about 16 kgfm, and the six-speed automatic transmission remains unchanged.

According to Maia, the new timing belt is more robust, designed to better withstand usage conditions and wear, a relevant feature in less favorable after-sales scenarios.

The component continues to be oil-bathed, but with the new supplier, it gained greater durability, in addition to reducing the impact on the engine.

Modern Facelift with New LED Headlights

Visually, the Onix 2026 stands out with the facelift at the front.

The headlight, bumper, and grille have received updates, bringing a more modern and sporty look, especially in the RS version, as pointed out by Renato Maia.

This intermediate configuration also features the traditional darkened Chevrolet bowtie, redesigned alloy wheels (16-inch, 195/55 tires), black piano details, and RS badge on the grille.

It’s worth noting that despite the sporty appearance, the RS version does not represent the top of the range: front parking sensors, for example, are not part of the package.

Changes at the Rear and Dimensions Maintained

At the rear, the changes are more discreet.

The rear bumper has gained a new diffuser, the taillight has been redesigned with LED signatures, and the exhaust remains hidden, as reported by the channel.

The trunk still opens only with the key, and the RS version has an attachment on the spoiler and a black-painted roof.

Regarding dimensions, there were no changes: the wheelbase, width, and height remain identical to the previous model, characterizing a facelift focused on design and equipment.

According to Renato Maia, performance remains as expected, with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in between 9 and 10 seconds, depending on the version.

Renewed Interior with Digital Dashboard

The interior has also undergone targeted updates.

The instrument panel is now digital (LCD cluster) in all versions, and the finishing features elements that simulate carbon fiber, especially in the center console, along with varied textures and red details in the air vents in the RS configuration.

The seats are upholstered in leather with red stitching, all occupants have three-point seat belts and ISOFIX system for child seats, and the interior space remains the same as the previous line.

On the ceiling, the darkened finishing enhances the sporty appeal of the version.

More Technology and Connectivity in the Chevrolet Onix 2026

Technology equipment has advanced in the Onix 2026.

As reported by Renato Maia, all versions now offer multimedia center with wireless mirroring for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, in addition to onboard internet via the OnStar system, single-zone digital air conditioning, push-button start, and multifunction steering wheel with media and cruise control commands.

The model also includes blind spot sensors, speed limiter, side airbags in the pillars, and two conventional USB ports in the rear — still without an upgrade to USB Type C, according to the channel Falando de Carro.

Safety and Equipment List

In terms of safety, the Chevrolet Onix 2026 shows improvements, although some items are still restricted to the more complete versions.

Among them:

  • Front and Rear Parking Sensors
  • Rearview Camera
  • Blind Spot Alert

There is currently no offering of disc brakes on the rear wheels, even in the top versions, as shown in the video.

Chevrolet Onix Plus and Top Versions

The 2026 line also includes the sedan configuration, the Onix Plus, which receives the same standard of visual updates, new bumper, LED taillights with crystal effect, and redesigned alloy wheels in the pricier versions.

The Premier versions, considered top of the line, maintain the absence of a sunroof, internal finishing still predominantly in hard plastic, and lack of soft materials on the dashboard, which was mentioned by Renato Maia as a point to be addressed compared to direct competitors like the Honda City.

Connectivity, Convenience, and Prices

In terms of connectivity and convenience, the Onix 2026 offers features like wireless phone charger, electric window controls on all doors, mechanical adjustments for the seats, and an efficient climate control system.

The steering wheel has a flat-bottom design, enhancing the sporty look in the RS versions, and there is yellow internal lighting, push-button start, and a traditional internal rearview mirror.

The prices for the Chevrolet Onix 2026 versions range from about R$ 100,000 for the entry-level configuration (1.0 Naturally Aspirated Engine) to up to R$ 130,000 in the RS or Premier version, both with turbo engine and more technology equipment.

The Onix Plus, sedan, follows the same pricing logic, expanding the offer for different consumer profiles.

Competitiveness and Positioning of the Chevrolet Onix 2026

The General Motors strategy, according to Renato Maia, seems to be updating the Onix while maintaining leadership among compact hatches, offering a diverse range of versions and technology, without sacrificing competitive pricing — an essential aspect in a highly competitive segment in Brazil.

By bringing elements from more expensive cars, such as digital cluster and LED signatures, the manufacturer reinforces its value proposition, although some solutions, such as the prevalence of hard plastic in the finishing, still divide opinions among consumers.

In your view, has the new Chevrolet Onix 2026 truly addressed the durability issues of the engine’s timing belt, or will the supplier change be just a temporary solution?
