Technical Changes and Power Adjustments Mark the New 2026 Lineup from Chevrolet, Highlighting the Introduction of the Oil-Bathed Belt and Changes Driven by Regulatory Requirements and the Search for Efficiency.

Chevrolet is preparing important changes for the 2026 lineup of the Tracker, Onix, and Onix Plus models, focusing on meeting new regulatory requirements and enhancing the consumer experience.

Among the main updates is the introduction of a new oil-bathed belt, as well as adjustments to the 1.0 turbo engine, which will result in a decrease in power.

According to a report published by the website Quatro Rodas, these changes have been confirmed by sources linked to the manufacturer and signal a strategic reconfiguration for the Brazilian automotive landscape.

Power Reduction and Environmental Regulations

In recent months, the American manufacturer had implemented changes to the national portfolio, such as the increase in power of the 1.0 turbo engine in October 2024 and the introduction of direct injection to the Tracker, one of Brazil’s best-selling compact SUVs.

However, according to information from the website Quatro Rodas, the 2026 lineup will mark a decrease in power: the engine will go from the current 121 horsepower with ethanol to 115 horsepower, which will also be maintained in the gasoline configuration.

Chevrolet will launch a new oil-bathed belt in the 2026 models, with changes in power, technology, and warranty.

This update nullifies the power gain observed in recent years and positions the models with inferior performance even compared to the 2025 lineup, when the engine delivered 116 horsepower.

Industry sources consulted by the website Quatro Rodas explain that this decision is a result of preparation for the new Green IPI rules, a federal government project aimed at redefining the rates of the Tax on Industrialized Products based on environmental criteria.

Among these criteria are carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions, energy efficiency, and the engine’s power.

Although the official regulations have not yet been published, manufacturers and industry entities, such as the National Association of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers, are already advising technical adjustments to ensure that vehicles fit into the most advantageous tax brackets.

Selective Tax and Impact on Chevrolet Models

In addition to the Green IPI, another tax about to be implemented is the Selective Tax, dubbed the “Sin Tax.”

According to a report from the website Quatro Rodas, the new tax will apply to products considered harmful to health or the environment, including automobiles.

Criteria such as power, energy efficiency, type of fuel, and pollutant emissions index will determine the rates, causing automakers to adjust their models to avoid increasing the final cost to consumers.

Update of the Oil-Bathed Belt

Another highlight of the 2026 lineup, pointed out by the investigation from the website Quatro Rodas, is the update of the oil-soaked belt in the engine system.

Chevrolet invested in the improvement of this component after reports of failures, especially in cases where lubricants outside the recommended specifications were used.

Problems such as swelling, crumbling, or fraying of the belt, as well as the possibility of debris circulating in the lubrication system, prompted the technical review.

With the new solution, the expectation is to increase the lifespan of the component and reduce occurrences of failures, addressing demand from vehicle owners.

New Equipment and Standard Features List

In terms of technology, the 2026 lineup of the Tracker, Onix, and Onix Plus models will feature advancements in equipment and comfort.

The Onix will now include full-LED headlights, including LED fog lights, as well as a 8-inch digital instrument panel and a new 11-inch multimedia system, features already available in the Tracker.

The hatchback will also receive height and depth adjustable steering wheel, keyless entry, and height-adjustable seats in all versions, aiming to match the equipment level of its main competitors.

Extended Warranty and New Benefits

According to information gathered by the website Quatro Rodas, Chevrolet will also extend the warranty for the vehicles: the period will go from the current three years to five years.

The warranty for the timing belt has been extended to 240,000 kilometers, but this benefit will be conditional on subscribing to the OnStar service.

The plan, with a free duration of 10 years, offers features such as vehicle diagnostics, maintenance alerts, and notifications for the dealership, providing greater peace of mind and monitoring of the vehicle’s condition for owners.
