In The Midst Of The Trade Crisis With The US, Beijing Reinforces Support For Brazil And Advocates For Dialogue Based On Equity And International Rules

China is willing to work with Brazil to strengthen international cooperation and protect fair trade amid tensions with the United States. The statement was made by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun during a press conference on Monday (28) in Beijing.

The statement comes in response to the Trump administration’s threat to impose tariffs of 50% on Brazilian products starting August 1. According to Jiakun, China is willing to work with Brazil and other Brics countries to defend the multilateral trading system centered on the WTO and ensure greater balance in global relations.

Beijing Criticizes Unilateral Tariffs And Reinforces Alliance With Brazil In The Brics

Guo Jiakun reiterated his criticism of unilateral practices, stating that “tariff wars have no winners”. According to the Chinese spokesman, multilateralism needs to be protected and trade disputes should be resolved through dialogue and mutual respect.

China’s stance reinforces its strategic alliance with Brazil within Brics and other international forums. According to the Chinese Ministry, cooperation between the two countries will continue to be based on “concrete results and market principles”, including sectors such as agriculture, energy, and even aviation.

Brazil Prepares Response And Seeks External Support To Avoid Tariff Hike

Meanwhile, the Brazilian government is seeking diplomatic solutions. Chancellor Mauro Vieira is in New York, where he is attending meetings at the UN and awaiting an opening for negotiations with Washington. The priority is to avoid the impact of tariffs of up to 50% on Brazilian products.

According to sources from the Itamaraty, a contingency plan is already under discussion to mitigate the economic effects should the measures come into force on August 1. The situation directly affects agribusiness, the steel industry, and technology exports.

China Signals Market Opening For Brazilian Products

When asked about the possibility of China absorbing some Brazilian products that would be blocked by the US, the spokesman stated that there is room to expand exchange based on market rules. Beijing expressed interest in increasing imports of strategic items from Brazil, focusing on joint development.

In parallel, China reaffirmed its position in negotiations with the US in Stockholm, emphasizing that any international agreement must respect Chinese interests and adhere to WTO rules.
