After Military Exercises Around Taiwan, Xi Jinping Reaffirms Reunification Speech and Keeps Chinese Forces on High Alert.
Tensions between Taiwan and China have intensified again this Wednesday, the 31st, after Xi Jinping declared that the reunification of the territory is “inevitable.”
The statement came during the traditional New Year message, broadcast by the state-run CCTV, shortly after the conclusion of the military exercises conducted by China around the island.
The pronouncement has reignited security alerts in Taipei and amplified the debate over regional stability in the Taiwan Strait.

Xi Jinping Associates Reunification with “Trend of the Times”
In a televised speech, Xi Jinping emphasized that the reunification between mainland China and Taiwan would be an irreversible historical process.
According to him, the connection between Chinese people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait goes beyond politics and is based on family and cultural ties.
“We, Chinese on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, share a blood bond and kinship. The reunification of our homeland, a trend of the times, is inevitable,” said Xi.
Moreover, the Chinese leader reiterated the policy of “one country, two systems” as a model to maintain stability in territories under Beijing’s control.
“We must better support and integrate into the overall development of the country to maintain long-term prosperity,” he declared, mentioning Hong Kong and Macau.
China Maintains Military Pressure on Taiwan
Meanwhile, China continues to treat Taiwan as part of its territory, despite the island having its own government, democratic elections, and independent armed forces.
Beijing does not rule out the use of force as a means to achieve reunification.
The recent military exercises around the island reinforce this stance.
Even after the gradual withdrawal of Chinese vessels, the atmosphere remains one of intense vigilance, especially after the confirmation that the end of the maneuvers was only officially announced on Wednesday night, local time.
Taiwan Maintains High Alert After Chinese Drills
In light of the situation, Taiwan has decided to keep its active response systems.
The coast guard reported that the emergency maritime response center remained operational, even after signs of reduced Chinese activity.
“The maritime situation has calmed, with ships and vessels gradually leaving the area.
As China did not announce the end of the military exercises, the emergency response center remains operational,” said Kuan Bi-ling, head of Taiwan’s Ocean Affairs Council.
According to local authorities, the measure aims to ensure a quick response to any new unexpected military movements.
Numbers Reinforce Scale of Military Exercises
According to Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense, the Chinese maneuvers involved significant numbers in the last 24 hours.
A total of 77 Chinese military aircraft and 25 vessels, including navy and coast guard ships, were identified operating around the island.
Additionally, at least 35 military aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait, an informal boundary that historically serves as a separation zone between the forces on both sides.
The crossing is seen by Taipei as a gesture of direct intimidation.
Chinese Forces Remain on Combat Readiness
Even after announcing the cessation of operations, the Chinese regime stated that its armed forces would remain on high alert.
According to Beijing, the objective is to continuously strengthen combat readiness, maintaining immediate response capability in case of conflict escalation.
This stance keeps constant pressure on Taiwan, which views the Chinese strategy as an attempt to normalize intense military presence in the region.
Taiwan Condemns Chinese Military Mission
The government of Taiwan reacted strongly to Beijing’s actions.
For Taipei, the operation dubbed by China “Mission Justice 2025” represents a direct threat to regional security and an open provocation.
Taiwanese authorities emphasize that the military exercises increase the risks of incidents in the Taiwan Strait and heighten instability in the Indo-Pacific.
Furthermore, the local government reinforces that any attempt at reunification by force violates international principles and the right to self-determination of the Taiwanese people.
Situation Remains Tense in the Taiwan Strait
Meanwhile, analysts observe that Xi Jinping‘s speech, combined with military maneuvers, indicates that the issue of Taiwan will remain at the center of China’s political and military strategy in 2025.
The insistence on reunification as “inevitable” increases uncertainties and keeps the region under constant international scrutiny.
In this context, the Taiwan Strait remains one of the main points of geopolitical tension in the world, with direct impacts on regional security and global balance.
