China currently ranks as one of the main commercial hubs in the world, but importing products from the Asian country requires a series of details for businesses to be conducted smoothly.

Importing products from China can be financially advantageous due to the vast variety of products and prices, driven down by internal competition, says Helmuth Hofstatter, CEO of Logcomex, startup that offers big data and automation platforms for foreign trade. “The advancement of technology has provided access and various facilitators for importation, such as websites and mobile apps with Chinese suppliers,” he points out.

Moreover, Helmuth believes that the current scenario benefits small entrepreneurs, who can start their businesses in e-commerce. “Remembering that China is Brazil’s main trading partner and, in 2021, for example, 31.3% of Brazilian imports came from the Asian giant,” he details.

So, what is the first step to import products from China? – It is to have an active CNPJ. Furthermore, payments of taxes and adherence to a series of care and requirements are necessary to avoid problems with the Federal Revenue Service. Import Tax, Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS) and Customs Clearance Fee (Customs Clearance) (fee required by customs for product authorization in the destination country) are among the taxes.

Helmuth highlights the items considered good to import from China, such as personal accessories (rings, necklaces, bracelets, and earrings), technological accessories (watches, headphones, mouse, and keyboard), electronic devices, beauty products, and clothing.
