An 18-year-old girl, identified as Yang, gained prominence on Chinese social media recently by showcasing her life inside a bathroom. An employee at a furniture store in Zhuzhou, Hunan Province, she decided to turn the 6 m² space into her home to save on rent, according to The Economic Times.

Yang pays her boss the equivalent of R$ 37 per month to live there. The video in which she shows her routine in the small bathroom went viral on the Douyin platform, the Chinese version of TikTok.

A Bathroom That Turned Into A Home

In the small space, the young woman organizes all the basic functions of a home. She sleeps on a foldable bed, which also serves as a lock for the door, preventing curious onlookers from entering.

The store owner even offered the office as an alternative for her to sleep. However, as the room has no doors, Yang preferred to stay in the bathroom, where she feels safer and more secure.

The young woman earns around R$ 2,320 monthly. From that amount, approximately R$ 307 is allocated to expenses, including the symbolic ‘rent’ for the space.

Dream Of Independence

Despite the unusual situation, Yang claims to be satisfied with her decision because she can save a good portion of her salary.

She aims to save enough in the future to buy her own house or a car.

The case generated significant discussion on Chinese social media, dividing opinions between those who praise her determination and those who criticize the working and living conditions shown in the video.
