Asian Automotive Giant Arrives With Strong Investment, Five New Models, and Extensive Dealer Network Targeting the Heated Electrified Market in the Country.

The Chinese giant GAC Motor officially arrives in Brazil. The brand starts its operations with the simultaneous launch of five vehicles. There are four electric models and one hybrid. The company also announced an investment of US$ 1.3 billion (over R$ 7 billion) in the country. The goal is to strengthen its presence and begin national production of three models.

The Strategy of the Chinese GAC: Multiple Launches and Billion-Dollar Investment

An additional Chinese brand arrives in Brazil. GAC Motor, one of the largest manufacturers in China, bets on a variety of options. Its goal is to compete with the already established BYD and GWM. The company also seeks to surpass the newcomers Omoda Jaecoo and Geely. To achieve this, they are arriving with five launches at once. There are four electric cars: Hyptec HT, Aion V, Aion Y, and Aion ES. There is also a hybrid model, the GS4. Additionally, GAC will invest over R$ 7 billion to have three local models.

Sales Network and Special Launch Conditions of the Chinese GAC

All models will start being sold this Saturday (24). Sales will take place throughout Brazil, at 83 points of sale. These are distributed among 33 dealerships and 50 points in shopping centers. By the end of 2027, GAC’s promise is to have 200 stores. There are representatives from networks like Amazonas and PróAuto. These networks also work with brands like Fiat, Renault, Ford, and Mitsubishi.

Those who purchase GAC cars by June 30 of this year will have special conditions. These include a free portable charger for all electric vehicles. They also offer three years of free maintenance or 100,000 km. There will also be two years of 24-hour assistance and two years of free internet.

GAC’s electric cars have an 8-year warranty or 160,000 km. The battery of the electric vehicles is guaranteed for 200,000 km. The hybrid GS4 comes with a 5-year warranty or 150,000 km. GAC reports that it aims to sell 8,000 cars by December 2025. For 2026, the target is to sell 29,000 units nationwide.

Electrics: Meet the Aion and Hyptec Lineup

GAC has three sub-brands in China. Aion is focused on electric cars. Initially, there will be three models from this division.

GAC Aion Y: Competitive Electric Minivan

The Aion Y is a spacious electric minivan, larger than entry-level electric competitors and with the size of a family car. It offers 204 hp of power and a range of 318 km (Inmetro), aiming for versatility in the segment.

The GAC Aion Y is an electric minivan. It has a size similar to the Chevrolet Spin and Citroën C3 Aircross. Its prices are R$ 174,990 for the Premium version and R$ 184,990 for the Elite. As it is electric, it will have a higher price range than combustion competitors. However, it will face similar battery models of much smaller size. The Aion Y measures 4.54 m in length, larger than the BYD Dolphin and GWM Ora 03. Its wheelbase is 2.75 m. The electric motor delivers 204 hp and 22.9 kgfm of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds, with a top speed of 150 km/h. The 63.2 kWh battery offers a range of 318 km (Inmetro). It charges from 30% to 80% in 55 minutes at 75 kW DC chargers.

The GAC Aion V costs R$ 214,990. It is a medium electric SUV. It measures 4.61 meters in length and has a wheelbase of 2.76 m. The trunk holds 427 liters. The motor has 204 hp and 24.5 kgfm. It reaches 160 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds. The 75.3 kWh battery provides a range of 389 km (Inmetro). It recovers from 30% to 80% charge in 16 minutes at 180 kW DC chargers. It includes adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist.

The Aion ES is a medium electric sedan. It costs R$ 169,990. GAC aims for corporate sales with it. This includes rental companies, ride-hailing drivers, and corporate fleets. It has simpler finishing and fewer features than the Volkswagen Virtus and Honda City. It measures 4.81 meters in length and has a wheelbase of 2.75 m. The trunk capacity is 453 liters. Its range is 314 km (Inmetro). The electric motor generates 136 hp and 22.9 kgfm. The batteries are 55.2 kWh.

GAC Hyptec HT: Luxury Electric SUV with Unique Doors

The top model of the Chinese GAC is the Hyptec HT. This electric SUV belongs to the Hyptec division. It was created to compete with the Tesla Model Y. It comes in two versions: Elite (R$ 299,990) and Ultra (R$ 349,990). The Ultra version has rear doors that open upwards. The refined finishing is a highlight. The Brazilian version has engines with 245 hp and 31.5 kgfm. The range is 362 km (Inmetro). It measures 4.94 meters in length and has a wheelbase of 2.94 m. The interior features a 14.6-inch multimedia system and sound with 22 speakers.

GAC has also brought the GS4. In other markets, it is known as Emkoo. It arrives only in hybrid version. The prices are R$ 189,990 (Premium) and R$ 199,990 (Elite). It combines an electric motor of 182 hp with a 2.0 engine of 140 hp. The combined power is 235 hp. The 2.1 kWh battery is recharged by regeneration or by the thermal engine. GAC reports that the system can drive up to 705 km. The consumption is 14.1 km/l in the city and 11.8 km/l on the highway. It measures 4.68 m in length and has a wheelbase of 2.75 m. It features a 10.1” multimedia system and a 10.25” digital dashboard.

The Factory of the Chinese GAC in Brazil

Weeks ago, President Lula met with representatives of GAC in China. They reaffirmed their commitment to invest in Brazil. The investment was increased to US$ 1.3 billion, or over R$ 7 billion. GAC executives are studying producing three vehicles at the HPE Automotores factory. This unit, a representative of Mitsubishi, is located in Catalão (GO). The Goiás factory operates and produces the Triton pickup truck. Thus, GAC would not purchase the unit. It would firm an agreement to produce there alongside Mitsubishi, leveraging idle capacity.
