Discover How AI Models Like DeepSeek and Qwen Are Being Used in Cybercrime, Facilitating Online Fraud and Threatening Global Cybersecurity.

The cybercrime driven by Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly growing and, therefore, is increasingly concerning the cybersecurity sector. In January 2025, Check Point Software Technologies, a leading digital security company, detected that cybercriminals are migrating from ChatGPT to new generative AI models, such as DeepSeek and Qwen, developed by Alibaba.

Consequently, digital criminals have been exploiting these AI models using jailbreaking techniques on AI. They remove ethical and security restrictions in order to generate malicious content.

These criminals also create infostealers and develop methods that bypass online fraud systems and fraud protections.

While DeepSeek, launched in October 2024, and Qwen, introduced by Alibaba in November 2024, offer less resistance to misuse, ChatGPT, created by OpenAI in November 2022, has more robust barriers to prevent abuse.

Cybercriminals, especially those with little technical experience, take advantage of the easy access to these tools and, thus, broaden the spectrum of cyber threats.

Moreover, Check Point warns that uncensored versions of these AI models will likely become increasingly common in underground forums and on the dark web, which increases the risk for individuals and businesses.

As a result, the advancement of cybercrime imposes constant challenges for cybersecurity professionals, who therefore need to adapt their strategies to combat these new threats.

The Impact of Generative AI on Digital Security

Modern cybersecurity demands advanced solutions and constant monitoring of these new technologies.

For this reason, the malicious use of generative AI reinforces the need for stricter regulation and collaboration among technology companies, governments, and security experts.

Additionally, raising public awareness about the risks associated with online fraud and the misuse of artificial intelligence becomes essential to reduce negative impacts.

With the advancement of cybercrime and the popularization of models like DeepSeek and Qwen, organizations must therefore invest in robust cybersecurity solutions and stay updated on emerging trends in the use of AI for criminal activities.

In this sense, constant vigilance and technological innovation offer the best weapons against these digital threats.

This information was released by Check Point Research and reported on various technology and digital security portals, such as TI Inside Online.
