A new era of development is already underway, driven by the attraction of large investments in the Cellulose Valley in Mato Grosso do Sul. The region, which is becoming a hub for accelerated growth, now celebrates the Sucuriú Project, led by the Chilean giant Arauco. With a billion-dollar investment, the Cellulose Valley is strengthening as a new industrial hub in Brazil.

Colossal Project In The Cellulose Valley Features Cutting-Edge Technology

With a historic investment, Arauco is starting Brazil’s largest construction project with an investment of US$ 4.6 billion, which corresponds to about R$ 25 billion, the company will build in Innocência one of the largest pulp mills in the world, very close to the Sucuriú River.

Located in Mato Grosso do Sul (MS), the logic that a favorable environment attracts large projects and robust investments has been realized, especially in the region already known as the Cellulose Valley.

This area is experiencing rapid growth, driven by investments from major pulp industries, such as Brazil’s recent new industrial hub, the Sucuriú Project by multinational Arauco, which will become the largest investment in the history of the Chilean company.

This investment, approved by the company’s board of directors, envisions a unit with advanced technology and automated systems, aligned with the principles of Industry 4.0 and with the capacity to produce 3.5 million tons per year of bleached pulp.

New Industrial Hub In Brazil Promises To Generate Thousands Of Jobs

In addition to state-of-the-art infrastructure, Arauco will partner with Finnish Valmet, which will provide equipment to optimize production processes and ensure sustainability.

According to Governor Eduardo Riedel, it will be a modern unit that will generate thousands of new jobs, social and economic development, highlighting the state’s commitment to attracting sustainable investments and job creation in the Cellulose Valley.

The project for the new industrial hub in Brazil is already in the earthworks phase, currently employing about 1,200 workers. The estimate is that, at the peak of construction, this number will reach 14,000.

The plant, with operations expected to begin in the second half of 2027, will be one of the largest in the world, generating not only direct jobs but also consolidating the regional economy in the Cellulose Valley.

For operations, Arauco’s factory will have the largest Chemical Recovery Boiler in the sector, a Biomass boiler that utilizes production waste to generate energy, and a gasification plant for biofuel production.

This infrastructure will enable the project to produce 400 MW of energy, of which 200 MW will be consumed internally, and the excess will be made available to the national grid.

Arauco’s Investment Also Focuses On Sustainability

Arauco presented this week in Innocência the diagnosis prepared for building the Socio-Environmental Strategic Plan for the Sucuriú Project. With the start of construction, Arauco presented this week in Innocência the diagnosis prepared for the construction of a Socio-Environmental Strategic Plan to align its actions with the region’s demands.

This plan includes investments in infrastructure and partnerships with institutions such as Senac, Sesi, Sebrae (MS), and the Federal Institute of Mato Grosso do Sul, as well as specific measures for health, education, public safety, and housing.

According to Theófilo Militão, Arauco’s sustainability director, economic growth needs to align with social development, a concern that reflects the company’s values.
